I miss you!Edit
Just here to say hi. We have made a whole load of changes to Discord, so you might feel able to come back? Firstly, we've separated out staff permissions on the wiki/forums/etc from Discord staff permissions, so you only have to take Discord staff permissions if you want them. Secondly, it's now possible to go off-duty if you only want to hang out and don't feel like getting involved in any moderation. (When you type the command, your name drops from the Staff section down to ordinary users.) Thirdly, we've added some Community Moderators from among the most active users, which gives the rest of us the chance to continue working on our usual UESP projects without feeling the obligation to moderate the Discord chat.
It would be great to see you again, but I understand that your health must come first. baratron (talk) 18:59, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- I appreciate the suggestion, and believe me, there are times when I miss being able to just pop on and discuss something with someone, or point out some goof or whatever for general amusement. But, among other things, I found that Discord was just taking too much of my time and energy, and I suspect it would have been like that even without having administrative duties. Having left the server, and having cut back on a few other things, I've once again been able to find the time and energy to start working on HoodBot, which I hadn't touched in about half a year! (I was hoping to be more or less finished it by now.) So, for now, that has to take priority. Once that project is done, I may consider rejoining the Discord server. – Robin Hood (talk) 22:59, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
Job #444Edit
Do you know what HotnBOThered's job #444 was about? A user pointed out this edit, which is incorrect; those fields are hidden by default when they aren't applicable, so it's redundant to add "N/A". Any similar edits ought to be reverted. —Legoless (talk) 17:25, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- That was a result of this discussion. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:43, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Namespace in the Page TitleEdit
Technical skin/style/css/js type question; is there a way to move/hide/shrink the namespace part of a page title? I was just looking at Tes5Mod:Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil/Absent Antiquity, or even Skyrim:I Done Got Thaned!, and thinking how much tidier they would both look if just Absent Antiquity and I Done Got Thaned! were prominent.
For example:
Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 00:17, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Not that I'm aware of, no. Looking at the HTML code, it looks like it's emitted as a single line of text with no CSS applied to specific sections. There might be something lower down, at the level of an extension or adding a custom skin, but that's not gonna be easy. It's a good idea, though!
Unable to create thumbnail errorEdit
Do you have any idea what could be causing the error on this page? It looks like a server-side error, I can't find any problems in my code, which works on every other case so far. Thought it might have something to do with the fact that image was moved due to the skill being renamed, but it's not the only time that happened and none of the others are causing problems. It seems like it's just not possible to create any new thumbnails of that icon, only the standard 48 pixels and the full-scale 64 pixels:

— TheRealLurlock (talk) 04:13, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- It's likely that the drive for creating image thumbnails is temporarily full. I'll bump this up to Dave. If that's all it is, it'll probably just take him a sec whenever he gets up in the morning. – Robin Hood (talk) 07:30, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
-
- I was thinking about that, but I created dozens of thumbnails both before and after that one, so unless they're on different drives? I don't know. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:36, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

-
- Yay, thanks! I was going nuts trying to figure out if there was something going wrong with my template. Even tried re-uploading the image. Next experiment would've been to completely delete it first and then re-upload. Glad you could fix it server-side. I did notice that it was the bot which moved that file, not sure if that's in any way relevant. I'm currently doing a sandbox to test this template on literally all the skills, so I'll let you know if any other errors pop up. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:48, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

- I certainly didn't do that last night. I'm wondering if it was a couple of years ago, to fix another problem we had where there were misplaced files and thumbnails. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:27, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

-
- Yeah it probably only showed up now because nobody tried to make another thumbnail for that image until just now. Anyhow, I've now tested the template on every skill currently in the game (not counting deprecated skills) and there were no other server issues. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:46, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Legends tables and Card DataEdit
Hey Rob, here I am again with some table and template questions. I tried to use Template:Decklist in my sandbox here User:Ilaro/Sandbox3, but as you can see, the last column of the College of Winterhold card makes some strange shapes. I think we saw this already somewhere before due to the extra added column on the right side of the table. Do you know how the template could be fixed? I figured it has something to do with Template:Card Data?
Also, do you know if Dave managed to find/fix anything about the MetaTemplate not saving that template properly from our discussion here: UESPWiki:Bot Requests#Card links and pop-ups? --Ilaro (talk) 22:55, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
- I fixed the Decklist template. I haven't heard anything back from Dave on the MetaTemplate issue. I suspect that might not be an easy fix. – Robin Hood (talk) 23:16, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
Legends tables (another question)Edit
Hey Robin! Since we started to use tables without card images (like here, for example), we've run into the problem that it is hard to discern the different attributes of the cards. So I thought it would be nice if the Attribute/Class column from Template:Card Data could be changed to also display the Attribute icon. For example, when strength is used it should display " Strength". I tried to do it myself, however there are also double attributes (like " Archer") and I am getting completely lost how I should even begin to add those without breaking everything. So that's how I ended up at your talk page again. I hope you know how to add these icons to the template. If you'd like to help me out, I made a small overview to show what combination there are. --Ilaro (talk) 14:59, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- I actually changed the {{LG Attribute Icon}} template itself, so it now handles classes as well as attributes (e.g., Archer). I've put it into action on the Classes page, as well as {{Card Data}}, but if there's anywhere else that needs it, go nuts. If there's a lot that would need to be changed, let me know and I'll see if I can get the bot going on it instead. – Robin Hood (talk) 16:48, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
-
- That's a quite elegant solution actually! I don't think the bot is necessary, because there are not that many places the class names are used outside the tables and the class page itself. There is one strange thing happening with Template:Decklist, though. There are all kind of "}} }} }}" above the tables now (see here). --Ilaro (talk) 16:55, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

- Just a slight bracket mismatch that I didn't notice in testing. It's fixed now. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:15, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Quick Bot Job - Crown CratesEdit
Hey, it occurred to me since splitting Crown Crates so that each crate theme has its own page, there may be some places that still link to the no-longer-existing sub-sections of that page. Could you run a search for all pages that link to e.g. "Online:Crown Crates#Flame Atronach Crates
" and change them to link to Flame Atronach Crown Crate, et al? — TheRealLurlock (talk) 15:49, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- In progress. I also took the liberty of replacing links with similar text, like those found on Body Markings. It's a dumb-replace, though, so it'll only match the specific text that I gave it. If there are other common occurrences like that, I can always run it again; if it's just a handful, though, it'll be faster to change them by hand. – Robin Hood (talk) 19:13, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

- Alright, if you're collecting a list of questionable edits, just let me know and I'll double-check them. Thanks. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:32, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Template on Online:Style MaterialsEdit
I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of the /Row template is on Online:Style Materials. What benefit does it provide over just standard table notation? It has a significant drawback in that it breaks the sortable table class, so it's not possible to e.g. sort by style, which doesn't seem like an unreasonable request for such a table to have. This template isn't used anywhere else, so I can't see how it's all that useful. While I do prefer the table format to the old list page, this template prevents us from using the most beneficial feature of the table layout. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:58, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
- Simplicity and consistency of formatting without having to change every single row when we want to change something. It shouldn't be breaking the Style sorting, though. I'll look at that. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:00, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
-
- I've traced the problem down to the colspan for the image, but I'm not sure why it's causing a problem. Our sorting code is supposed to handle that correctly. It's possible that something's gotten broken over the years, or that there's something in the format of that particular table that it's not handling correctly. I can't look at it any further right now, but I'll come back to it later today. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:35, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
-
-
Hmm. We use colspans on plenty of other sortable tables without issues. I wonder why it'd be a problem in this case? It's a start though, I might be able to work with that.Wait, I just realized what you meant - in other cases we use colspans on the header row, I can't think of any cases where colspans are used in the body of the table. That may be a problem. Best solution I can think of is to make them just 1 cell, but with 2 images side by side in it, then somehow fake the appearance of 2 cells in the header? — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:16, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Well, that worked pretty nicely I think. It looks slightly different in that the divider line doesn't go all the way to the top and bottom of the cell, but not too bad, and if it means the table sorting works properly, I'd say it's an acceptable loss. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:35, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Cite bookEdit
Something appears broken with it, possibly as a result of all the recent changes, as it is not displaying the book title in references on lore pages. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:42, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, it's fixed for now. It's also on my list of things to take a look at once this project is closer to finished—that template is doing things you really don't want to be doing in a wide use template, so I'm hoping that once I'm done, there will be a simpler solution. – Robin Hood (talk) 18:01, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

- It's always bugged me that "book" is not capitalised in that template. In your overhaul would you consider capitilising it (maybe leave a redirect for the older users)? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:27, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Requesting cartographer statusEdit
Hello, I'd like to request cartographer status in order to be able to edit the ESO map. From what I understand, this is usually only granted to patrollers and administrators, but I was invited by User:Alpha Kenny Buddy to become a patroller in 2016 (see my talk page for the discussion) and I did not accept only because I do not contribute to UESP for more than a few weeks or months at a stretch. Hopefully the invitation itself is sufficient evidence of my qualifications as an editor. I would also like to mention that I do have prior experience with editing the ESO map during the weeks after the Morrowind chapter released, before the cartographer status was a requirement. Croaker (talk) 00:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- It's not specifically admins and patrollers that get those permissions, we just want to make sure that any users who can edit our maps have demonstrated their editing skills. You certainly qualify, so I've granted you the permission. Let me know if you run into any problems. – Robin Hood (talk) 02:42, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Possible bot request - centeringEdit
So I don't know if you remember, but a while back we were having issues with the "center" tag on images, which have still not been resolved. On my laptop's Chrome browser, it causes the image to simply not display at all, and I've also noticed on my tablet and phone that the Chrome browsers there display the image, but not centered. Likewise for the Silk browser on the tablet and the Samsung native browser on the phone.
I came up with a method that works in all browsers that I have available to test, and I'd like to change all the pages that use the old method to this - unless you can find a way to fix the center tag instead, that is. Right now it either doesn't actually center the image, or worse, makes it disappear entirely. If we can't fix that, though, could you get the bot to go through all the pages in Online-Places-Survey_Reports and Online-Places-Treasure_Maps and change them to use the formatting used on Alchemist Survey: Glenumbra - notably remove the "|center" tag and embed the image in a table. (I gave the table 70% width so that it doesn't get pushed below the infobox template.)
I've tested this method in Chrome and Edge on my laptop, Chrome and Silk on tablet, Chrome and Samsung browser on the phone, and had several people in Discord testing on Firefox, Opera, Safari, Puffin and others, and this seems to work for everyone. I'm open to other suggestions, but the current method doesn't work right now, so we need to fix it one way or another. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 17:15, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- That's a really ugly way to work around the problem. If we can, I'd rather fix the underlying issue or, failing that, see what else we can find. I'll look into it. Tables are cumbersome and slow, so I really don't want to introduce them all over the place. A <div> would be better, but even that's a less-than-ideal workaround, in the sense that we're changing things globally across the wiki for what's likely a version-specific and/or browser-specific issue. What version of Chrome are you using, btw? I'm using the PC version of Chrome, 66.0.3359.139 (Official Build) (64-bit), and everything looks fine for me, regardless of centering method. It would be nice if I were able to reproduce the problem so I can test to see what works and what doesn't. – Robin Hood (talk) 18:01, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
-
- The version is 65.0.3325.181, which is not all that old - I think it dates back to September. I could update it, sure, but this isn't just about me, it's quite likely I'm not the only one using this version, so if I update it still doesn't fix the problem. It also doesn't fix the fact that the image is not centered on several other (mobile) browsers even if it does display. The center tag just plain doesn't work reliably and needs to be fixed or retired. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:30, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'm also using 65.0.3325.181, but the images are visible and centered on my desktop browser. Visible but left-aligned on mobile. That could be fixed by copying the
.center
rules from /skins/common/commonElements.css into the mobile stylesheet. Rigel Kent (talk) 20:15, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

- Oh, yeah, you weren't in the Discord chat so you wouldn't know. We got that one figured out. It was a custom AdBlock rule that was getting in the way, stripping out the entire centered contents. It was intended to remove the bottom ad on the site, but was overzealous. That was a completely separate issue from the mobile centering, we realized. – Robin Hood (talk) 00:09, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Arena PlacesEdit
Got either a quick or a difficult problem, depending on the solution. The {{Arena Place Summary}} is incompatible with {{Place Link}} because it uses desc instead of description. Either the summary needs changed to description and all instances updated (50-60 uses), or the link template needs a custom rule for use in Arena. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:29, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
- It also wasn't saving the description, although that kind of goes hand-in-hand with the naming issue. Renaming it made the most sense, so the bot's on that now. Thanks! – Robin Hood (talk) 00:55, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Deleting Add-ons on main page.Edit
If you're going to delete the Add-onds page in favor of the Plug-ins page, you need to modify the main page to actually say plugins, not just leave a hole, please. Don't have privileges to fix that. (Litrevan (talk) 10:20, 23 May 2018 (UTC))
- I've fixed the sidebar, if that's what you meant. If it was something else, please let me know, because I don't see anything on "the main page" (either the main page for Morrowind or the wiki's main page). IP users see cached versions of pages sometimes, so it could just be that. Now that you have an account, you might be seeing something different. Thanks for letting me know, either way! – Robin Hood (talk) 16:38, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Game BooksEdit
Something in the template appears to be interfering with secondary transclusions. The book ON:The Year 2920, Vol. 8 is not displaying text from its second section transclusion in the same format. Giving it a lorename=none and transcluding the first section manually makes it work. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:26, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's intentional behaviour, though it does mean that special cases like that one need a few changes to work properly. The reason is that Game Book turns off the book class once it's done transcluding. In a case like that one, however, you need to insert the text before it does that, which is what the
addafter
parameter is for...which I apparently didn't document. – Robin Hood (talk) 03:49, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
Bot requestEdit
Can I prevail on you for a simple bot job? I just need to go through the images in Category:Online-Furnishing_Images-Light and change all uses of the parameter light=y
to lightcolor=Orange
. (I've already manually changed all the ones that were not orange, and some that were, so ignore any images which do not currently use the "light" parameter.) Should be around 200 or so images left to do. Thanks. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 17:26, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
