Hesta Alleius is an Imperial Fisherman, prankster and pearl diver. Her fondness for jokes comes up in Selkies, where it becomes apparent that she has been dressing up as such a "perfect seal bride" in order to play tricks on other fishermen - not least the besotted Negdal Dimrin. This has two beneficial effects for her. Firstly, she finds it very funny. Secondly, it has lured many of the fishermen to the west bank of Stirk in hope of sightings while they work, allowing Hesta to access the pearl beds of the eastern side without much competition.
