Quest-Related EventsEdit
You can speak to Raerana while you're looking for clues to find who murdered her family:
- "Oh … who would do this, and why? Am I being punished? Why take my family and leave me to suffer?"
- Did you see what happened?
- "I wasn't here. I went into Riften to visit the market. When I returned … please, let it not be true!"
After you looked around the farm and gathered clues, you will learn about Rilyn from a letter addressed to her. She will give away Rilyn's hideout in the hope you can find him and bring him to her:
- "Please. No more questions. Just leave me alone."
- I found this letter addressed to you. Who's Rilyn?
- "My letter? How did you ….
Oh, what does it matter? Please, just find Rilyn. I need him here." - Where do you meet?
You can then ask further questions about her life and find out that Raerana's family life wasn't particularly happy, and that her father disapproved her relationship with Rilyn:
- "There's a cave, to the southwest. We were supposed to meet there tonight. Bring him back to me, I beg you."
- Is it possible your mother was using skooma?
- "What are you saying, that if she did she deserved to die? How does that matter? How my parents spent their money is no business of yours!"
- Skooma dealers can be very dangerous to those who can't pay.
- "Well, she did spend more money than she should. Can't say on what. They would argue about it sometimes. But so what? Eislef drank too much. Does that mean the barkeep in Riften is a suspect?"
- Did your father ever get angry when drunk? / Raerana, did you [sic] father get angry when drunk?
- "What? Where did you hear that? He drank, sure. All of us do!"
- Did he ever hit you?
- "So what if he did? I deserved it. I'd talk back to him or I'd be gone for hours with Rilyn.
Why does it matter? I loved him and now he's gone forever!"
- Do you think Rilyn would hurt your parents?
- "No, of course not! How can you ask me that? Our family had problems—all families do—and Rilyn knew about them, but he'd never do anything like that!"
After questioning her about her father's abusive behavior, if you speak to her again, she will be unhappy:
- "I'm sick of your insinuations. If you don't want to help, you can just leave!"
Blame the BanditsEdit
After speaking to Rilyn, if you decided to blame the murders on bandits, she'll say:
- "Rilyn told me you found the bandits who did this. Thank you."
After speaking to Jorald, the two lovers will say:
- Raerana Frostmoon: "I … I think I need to lie down for a moment."
- Rilyn Uvani: "Yes. Let's get you inside, dear. This has been a difficult day. But I'm here now."
Blame RilynEdit
If you instead accused Rilyn, you'll find him arguing with her outside of the farmhouse. Raerana is horrified at her lover's actions:
- Raerana Frostmoon: "How could you think that? Are you mad?"
- Rilyn Uvani: "Don't you see? No one stands between us now! Our life together can begin!"
- Raerana Frostmoon: "You are mad! You killed everyone I love! Get away from me!"
- Rilyn Uvani: "What? No, Raerana! Everything I did, it was all for you, for us!"
She runs into the house, and he follows.
- Raerana Frostmoon: "No! Get away! Ahh!"
After killing Rilyn, you can find her outside patching up Defender Jorald. She will move to Riften to live with her aunt and uncle. She suggests that her uncle, Wilrek, will reward you when you visit the Withered Tree:
- "Is Rilyn dead?
Oh, this is all my fault. My parents forbade me to see him, but I ignored them. I caused their deaths!" - You couldn't have known.
- "I should help Jorald clean up. Then I'll go to Riften. My aunt and uncle work at the Withered Tree. They're the only family I have left."
- I could escort you there.
- "You've done enough. You saved my life and avenged my parents. I have nothing to reward you with, but if you stop by the Withered Tree in Riften, my uncle Wilrek might."
Speaking to her again:
- "I've done all I can with Jorald's wound. I think he's going to be fine.
We'll set out to the Withered Tree soon. If you go to Riften, be sure to see Uncle Wilrek."
After the quest, if she moves to live with her aunt and uncle, she can be found upstairs at The Withered Tree with Constable Jorald. Raerana is resting in one of the beds while the Constable leans against the wall in the other room:
- "I was hoping you'd come back. Thank you again for all you've done.
Jorald will stay with me as long as I need. He's so very kind. Don't worry for me."
