Quest-Related EventsEdit
Lady Ninetha will ask you to investigate the tale of icy skeleton wolves at Havil's farm. The story was true and most of the farmers are now frozen zombies. Havil managed to lock himself in the house and you'll need to see how he is.
Once inside he'll shout at you with some bravado:
- Havil: "Who's that? If you came to eat me, you better turn right around!"
Assure him that you're not going to eat him and ask what happened to the farm. Havil fears the ghost he saw most of all.
- "What are you doing in my house?
First all my workers rot away into monsters because of frozen skeleton wolves, and now strangers are traipsing about my home." - Makob told me you were trapped in here.
- "You saw those creatures in the field! If I leave they'll make me like them. I have all I need in here to hold out until they are gone.
Besides, I'm not ready to see who's waiting for me out there again." - Who do you think is waiting for you?
- "I saw the spirit of … someone we thought disappeared years ago. The Jarl and Lady's daughter, Freiwen. They never talk about it. Too painful, I suppose. I guess she died if that's her ghost who brought these cursed wolves on us."
- Why would Freiwen want to haunt you?
- "No clue why she'd bring this upon us. Freiwen always loved visiting the farm.
Actually, there's someone who might know about Freiwen's fate. A clever woman who speaks with spirits named Old Mjolen. Perhaps you could ask her to help fix all this?" - I'll ask Mjolen if she has a solution to these undead.
- "Her hut lies to the north-east. She is a strange one for sure. Always stealing my chickens for her unnatural magics. But, she's the only one who understands the ways of ghosts.
In the meantime, I'm going to stay right here until this all blows over."
Talking with him again, he can be asked questions about Freiwen and Old Mjolen.
- "Go talk to Mjolen and figure out this mess. I'm not leaving my farm until those zombies are gone. I haven't lived this long by taking stupid risks."
- You said Freiwen enjoyed visiting the farm?
- "Oh yes. Even as a little girl, she'd wander out here on her own. Always giggled while chasing the chickens around the field.
Eventually Lady Ninetha would arrive to bring her home, apologizing for the disruption. But, I never minded. It was nice." - And you never found out what happened to her?
- "Well, I heard things. Morthal is a small town and people talk. Stuff about evil wizards kidnapping her. But I keep to myself and focus on the farm. No time for storybook tales."
- "Oh yes. Even as a little girl, she'd wander out here on her own. Always giggled while chasing the chickens around the field.
- Tell me more about Old Mjolen.
- "That old witch makes my skin crawl. Using chicken bones and blood for magic is unnatural. Anyone who works with Shor's power should be watched closely.
But, they say she talks to spirits. Might be helpful when convincing Freiwen's ghost to leave."
- "That old witch makes my skin crawl. Using chicken bones and blood for magic is unnatural. Anyone who works with Shor's power should be watched closely.
When you leave the house, there will be a blue light near the chicken coop. As you approach it will transform into a spectral image of Havil and a young Freiwen.
- Freiwen: "Can I feed the chickens, Havil?"
- <Havil gets up from his crouch and stretches his back.>
- Havil: "Of course, my dear! Go ahead and grab some seed."
Despite saying he would stay in his house, after the quest, he can be found at the tavern with his surviving farmhands.
- "I thought I could hole up in that farmhouse forever, but then I realized my mead supplies were dangerously low. That gave me the courage to sneak out and head into town.
Now that the curse is over, I'll head back home soon. After I've … restocked."
