Please excuse my haste if I have formatting or spelling errors in this:
I'm having a particularly annoying problem with this quest. Whenever a guard sees Mazoga, they attack her on sight. I'm guessing this has something to do with not completing this quest before doing Sanguine's quest, as when I was escaping the Castle to return to Sanguine's Shrine, for no apparent reason Mazoga and the guards were fighting.
So far I have found no way to fix this. If I paralyze the guards and let Mazoga kill them, I don't get a bounty. However, this becomes extremely difficult when I leave the castle to escort Mazoga to Fisherman's Rock, because every guard in the town attacks her at once, as well as a few NPC's jumping in for good measure.
I was thinking of adding something to the top of the page on the lines of "It is reccomended to complete this quest before doing Sanguine's quest", as well as something to Sanguine's Quest with the same message. But if I'm the only one with this problem, then I won't bother.
Anyone else have this issue or want to offer advice? - Magra7hea
- My character was able to do Mazoga the Orc after Sanguine's quest, without any hitches. However, I got through Sanguine's quest by getting one of the guard's dispositions up to 100, i.e. no fighting broke out. So it's probably worth putting a warning in the notes on the Sanguine page that choosing to escape can have some consequences for other quests.--Nephele 21:01, 26 June 2006 (EDT)
- My guess is that if you START the quest before doing Sanguine's quest, but don't finish it until after, you will have this problem. So I'd say you should either finish the quest before Sanguine's quest, or don't start it until after. Just a theory. --TheRealLurlock 22:05, 26 June 2006 (EDT)
- I think you hit the problem right on the head with that one. Now that I think about it, I had the Mazoga quest long before I did Sanguine's. That's most likely it. Magra7hea
- I had this problem and I haven't started Sanguine's quest; I've spoken to S's priests but haven't gone back there with the brandy. When the guards started attacking Mazoga, they ignored me completely, so I put on the Gray Cowl and a bunch of Chameleon and finished them off.
I'm having a bit different problem. When I started playing Oblivion it was my first single-player rpg and i was a bit confused and not-so-careful. When I freely explored Cyrodill I stumbled across this Mazoga the Orc character and noticed her fine armor and I didnt hesitate to kill her and take it. Everything was just fine besides the guards trying to kill me and all but I took care of that with the setcrimegold 0 console command. It was untill recently that I discovered that Mazoga was a quest character. I resurrected her with the resurrect command but the quest just wouldnt start (I didnt get any new topic and when I tried to talk with the count there was nothing besides the usual rumors and chancellor Ocato tabs). I looked up on this site and found out that there were bandidts at Fisherman's cave that were also quest-related but I killed them long before. So I just resurrected them too, but still, the quest wouldnt start! When I typed setstage MS91 2 to start the quest, my log updated but there still werent any changes (the count didnt respond accordingly). Now I updated the log so the quest is finished, but I cant sell the count Black Bows nor am I a Knight of the White Stallion although it said so in my logs. If anyone can help me, please do so. P.S.: sorry for the long story, it seemed necessary :P — Unsigned comment by Tilen (talk • contribs)
- I think the morals of the story are (a) don't kill everyone you meet and (b) don't use the console so much because things can get even more messed up. I doubt there's anything you can do to fix things at this point, at least not in this game. If you really want to do this quest, I'd suggest starting a new game and being a bit more careful the second time around. --Nephele 15:50, 12 October 2006 (EDT)
Easy Fix
Here's a way to fix the problem, with a minimum of console commands. Zompist 02:20, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
- Find Mazoga.
- Easiest way: position yourself on the river just north of Leyawiin. Hit ~ to start the console; type"player.placeatme 00085969"; hit Enter; hit ~ again. Mazoga should appear next to you.
- Another way: just join her in the County Hall and help her defeat whatever guards are right there. I used Paralysis on the guards and Greater Convalescence on Mazoga. There was just one guard, and I didn't get a bounty.
- With Mazoga standing there, enter the console again (~). Click on Mazoga; her name should appear at the top of the screen.
- Type "setcrimegold 0"; hit Enter; hit ~ again. This sets her bounty to 0, and now you can lead her around without anyone attacking her. (It doesn't stop fights that are in progress, which is why you have to get Mazoga alone first.)
Note to Above Method
Just enter the castle and hit tilde (~) with Mazoga on screen before the guards can get to her and hit her. L Click her and use the setcrimegold 0 function. The guards should sheathe their weapons and walk back to their posts. No killing anyone. -Luke
Alternate Method
I originally put this in the Mazoga NPC article, as I didn't know it should be in the Quest article. I also think that the above console method is a lot easier, and I wish I saw it before going through all of this. But in case someone has qualms about consoling things, here is another way to finish her quests (though I suppose she will still have her bounty if you ever bring her to a town again, unless you "setcrimegold 0" her.
1. If you are the Gray Fox, then you can enter sneak mode right outside the door to Castle Leyawin, wait till you are undetected, and wear the Gray Cowl before entering. You may need to supplement your sneak with invisibility or chameleon, to prevent the guards from accosting you. Upon entering, the guards will likely attack Mazoga. Kill the guards, heal Mazoga if you have Convalescence or something similar (as she could be attacked again soon). Remove the Gray Cowl, and you should be bounty-free.
2. If you are in the Thieves' Guild, Use invisibility or chameleon and kill the guards, or just plain old kill them. This will give you a bounty. Sneak out (easiest when chameleon or invisible) and sneak into Bravil or the Imperial City to see S'Kriiva or Armand to remove your bounty (S'krivva if possible, as the guards may respawn. Return to Castle Leyawin.
After either method described above, talk to the Count, and he will ask you to find out about Mazoga. Talk to Mazoga, and she will direct you to find someone and bring him back to her.
Talk to the person Mazoga sent you to find. He will go with you to the castle. Upon entering, Mazoga will likely be attacked again. Repeat the above steps, and return to Mazoga and have her follow you (using fast travel and sneak to avoid guards) to complete her quest.
The next quest (Knights of the White Stallion) can be accomplished in a similar manner. When it is finished, wait for Mazoga to leave the castle, and then fast travel away. When you visit the White Stallion Lodge, she should be there (and safe at last).--Mazogaman 18:39, 2 October 2006 (EDT)
The Disclaimer
I'll say the same thing as I did on Sanguine's Page:
I put a note on this page about the problem I've had. If anyone wants to re-word it then go ahead, but it would be a good idea to leave it in and have it at the top of the page. - Magra7hea
An Ally?
I never took Mazoga to Fishermans Rock. Instead, I hooked her up with some deadric fixed up bound armor and weapons and she follows me everywhere and fights by my side, leveling with me too. Granted, she can be killed, so, Yes!, I have to cast 'heal other' spells during the tougher encounters. But as far as I can tell, her Blade and Blunt are at 100, and in the deadric armor, she takes one heck of a beating and lives to tell about it. She is part of my battle gang that includes the (unkillable) Jemane Brothers from the quest 'Separated at Birth'. The 4 of us are unstoppable, thus far.
Mazoga comes equipped with an enchanted battle axe of disintegrate armor, its a sweet peice. I've noted that she prefers that weapon if it has not degraded to the point of uselessness (yes, allies weapons degrade too). She won't drop it tho, but its a sweet peice when she is using it. So to keep it filled and in working order i have to pickpocket it from her, fix it up, recharge it etc (plus, Mazoga doesnt care if she catches you picking her pocket, try it, its funny). Then, if I toss the fixed up axe on the ground just as a fight is starting, she will reach down to pick it up and equip it again. That's the only weapon she will automatically 'pick up'. I also keep a deadric long sword (fixed up bound item, weight 0) along with a full set of armor in her inventory. She switches over to that sword and the good armor once the Axe or her current armor is near useless, my queue that its time to fix her axe again. (as a side note, the Jemane Brothers automatically pick up a new weapon once theirs runs out, can you say 'Deadric Battle Axe', those 2 guys are incredible allies)
What other quests are out there that you can turn the escort target into an ally? I hooked my Grand Champion's Fan up with weapons and armor, he puts them on, but he still just runs off at a fight. Anyone know of any other viable ally targets that are not just temporary allies? I'd love to pick up a mage for this party. I'm thinking this would make the harder difficulty settings something that I might actually consider.
There are other NPC's you can add to your posse. Such include: Jauffre, Brother Martin, Mage Apprentice, Dark Brotherhood Murderer, a lady you have to bring with you during a Fighter's Guild Quest, and the son Donton.

- Take a look at Followers for a complete list. Admittedly, some on that list are more useful than others, but that should give you a place to start. --TheRealLurlock Talk 15:52, 8 April 2007 (EDT)
- Comment -funny you should mention this - but I reverse pickpocked 'adoring fan' to give him lots of enchanted bound armour - and it seemed to change his personality totally - instead of running away when attacked he started talking on beasties no problem - note I gave the armour lots of fortify strength enchantments - maybe the AI does a compare 'hit points' thing before working out whether to fight or run?
A Problem
The guards killed the orc and now the quest won't start. What should I do?
- How did the Guards kill the Orc? Am I correct in saying that you never started the quest? --Ratwar 18:42, 22 December 2006 (EST)
Yes, I was completeing the darkbrotherhood quests and They kept attacking her and then she died. I brought her back but the count still thinks she is dead and she thinks I helped her.
- That's really odd... Anyways, he's a console code that might help: setstage MS91 20

- I am having the same problem. I evidently "started" this quest when I first began the game in early 2006, several hundred hours later, as I'm trying to finish it, the count has no dialogue options available. I did the Sanguine quest about a hundred hours of gameplay back. I just have the "2%" progress point in my journal. After using the console to try to advance it, the count Still has no dialogue available. Further, I've talked to pretty much everyone in town about it and nobody mentions it. One guard randomly mentioned the orc, but there was no journal update. As of now, I see no way to complete, or even really start the quest. Very annoying. This seems to be a prime candidate for an Unofficial Patch fix. --Versailles

(Xbox360 Version) My Issue.
I play the 360 version of the game, therefore I have no console-command ability. Mazoga has already died and I'd really like to run that quest to attain the White Stallion keys. Any ideas, other than a new game, would be appriciated. Thanks.
The only thing you can do is revert to a save from before she died. If you Save Often, this isn't so bad.
I have the same problem when i go up to the count no options appear i would try killing her then reloading the game maybe that will work or try attacking the count.— Unsigned comment by 98.115.137.228 (talk) on 19 September 2009
mazoga standing there
in the mozoga the orc quest she doesn't go into the camp. she stands outside of it. what happened? she won't follow me either.
Mazoga doesn't like to swim
Has any one else noticed that Mazoga won't get in the water. I was on my way to take her to fisherman's rock and was going to swim there. (The water is much safer and faster) She followed me thru a small strech of water on to the island where the oblivion gate used to be but won't go off the edge of it into the deeper water. Maybe Orcs don't like to get wet! 69.92.93.72 14:46, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
- More likely, she was just heading to the closest path-grid point. NPCs usually only like to walk on path-grids unless they're in combat or something. This is what keeps people on the roads, and not crashing into fences somewhere or getting lost in the woods. Since there aren't generally path-grids set up in the water, it's harder to get people to follow you, especially if there's a road nearby. (This is not in any way unique to Mazoga or Orcs or anything like that. May be more noticeable in this case because there's a road very close to the shore on either side of Niben Bay which she'd be more likely to prefer.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:11, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

Another problem
I'm having a problem with this too. I haven't done the Sanguine quest but when I get back to the castle the guards attack her anyway. I have no way to get her alone to use the console since she's back at the castle and the guards wont stop. Wonderful bug.
Forlornhope
Haha, Annuther Problem!
Heh, lots of problems with this quest eh? Anyway; I want her as a follower, because followers are good, but I want to be able to recharge her weapon, and stuff, but two things:
- I can't find weapons/armour on the list to nick. I expect thats just got something to do with Sneak levels, innit? - I can't give her anything. It keeps on saying "You cannot store items in a container while pickpocketing". Is that something to do with sneak levels too? If thats right, I'm gunna sneak, Yarharhar. Urrissit to do with Xbox 360 stuff? I have considered getting it for the PC aswell...

after finishing the killing of the bandits Mazoga walks off and DIES!
hi all,
i have helped Mazoga to kill the bandits and she did get a bit of a kicking too. she wanders off and i start gathering up the goodies left behind. suddenly there is a message that she has died and the quest is complete! i saved just before this happened so I have no way of going back to the fight. I cant find where she dies to assist her or heal her. I tried the console command to bring her to me, which worked, but the banner still came up with the statement she had died even though she was standing right in front of me, perfectly fine! ARGH, is there any way around this or should I just forget the mission..... — Unsigned comment by 85.92.162.47 (talk)
- "At higher levels, Mazoga may get killed by creatures on her way back to Castle Leyawiin after the battle. If she dies, even after telling you her story but before you report it to Count Caro, you will fail the mission and be unable to proceed with the "Knights of the White Stallion" questline. Escort her and/or make frequent saves." I just copied and pasted it from the article. I don't know anything more. --Mankar Camoran•T•C•E• 09:44, 8 November 2007 (EST)
Do note that Mazoga can and will die.
Mazoga will continue to hunt down the bandits (possibly any bandit/marauder, etc.) and will probably die at some point in the game. I've noticed her dead in the Rockmilk Cave twice. I'm not sure if this is possible before you finish her quest-line though. I'd recommend a mod making her an essential NPC; I would've did it myself (for my own purposes mainly) but I wanted the Daedric armor. ;)— Unsigned comment by 75.177.51.98 (talk)
Mazoga will continue to hunt Black Bow Bandits after the final Mazogian (hehe) quest and she will say something about "Goin' to get me some Black Bows. Tag along if you like" if you talk to her.Drake3555 23:24, 12 May 2008 (EDT)
Mazoga the Orc (PS3)
This is a problem encountered on the PS3 version of Oblivion, Game of the Year Edition with Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles ore-installed (not added as expansions).
When encountering Mazoga in the Leyawiin in the Count's Court, she reacts as normal. However, the Count will make no mention of her.

I have the same problem. I read on this site that if you talk to almost everyone in the city it might reactivate your quest by asking for rumors. Havent tried it but just got done reading it.
Mazoga the Orc, ravaged to death by Angry Guards
This would have to be the second brutal attack I've ever seen the Leyawiin Castle guards make on someone for no apparent reason. (The first was Hlindara Mothril) She told me to get Weebam-Na, which I did. As soon as Weebam and I entered the castle, three Angry Guards pounced on Mazoga for no reason and eventually killed her. I did absolutely nothing, as I didn't want to get involved. After Mazoga died, Weebam-Na quietly left.
Note: I did not start the Sanguine quest, though I did start the Eye of Nocturnal quest (didn't get farther than meeting the two and overhearing their conversation). (Gromir the Wasted)24.2.171.37 18:29, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

One problem I'm having with the mazoga the orc quest is that I finished the Fisherman's Rock quest and I traveled back to the castle to talk to the count, but I had the Gray Fox cowl, and the guards started attacking me. I took the cowl off and then they started attacking Mazoga. Now she is dead and I can't go to a previse save. I talked to the count and he acted like she's not dead and wants me to talk to her about Black Brugo but I can't she is dead. Now there is a green arrow at her body and I do anything about it. I tried meeting Black Brugo between midnight and 6am at Telepe but no dice.
how i got around the 'mazoga' problem, but why bother?
i found that as soon as i re-entered the leyawin hall, mazoga and the guards started to fight, they were stronger than her and she would die, assisting her incurred a bounty. i found that if i exited the hall, the fighting would stop until i re-entered (with weebam-na) another problem with the quest is that if you incur a bounty while weebam-na is walking to the castle, the guards also re-act hostile to him and he flees. and the NPC vansihes. when weebam-na arrives, there was no dialogue between him or mazoga, but the quest up-dated normally. i then spoke to mazoga and IMMEDIATELY fast traveled to the camp. killing the bandits was not a problem, but upon re-entering leyawin, the guards attacked again, i hurried and quickly did the 'Black Brugo' quest with mazoga, once again fast traveling and killing guards that came close. but also found that the imperial scouts, guards and foresters were hostile to her also. though i managed to complete both quests without mazoga dying, she was slain by a horde of guards that had accumulated by the castle. though i hurried and completed the quest and received knights of the white stallion, mazoga was slain. i think that it is still possible to hunt for black bow bandits alone, but in my opinion the bug makes the quests too bothersome to bother with considering the reward (a leyawin shield that can be stollen from the barracks or from a dead guard) especially as i recieved 2 2000 spetim bounties for defending her. either re-load before sanguines quest or don't bother and let her die. (Auguil 08:35, 22 August 2008 (EDT))
And another problem
Well in my game, she got stuck on a tiny hill just in the Fisherman's rock and she didn't follow me anymore.
Seemingly random slaughter of Mazoga
- I too witnessed the seemingly random slaughter of mazoga by the Leyawiin guard. I realized belatedly that my use of the Grey Cowl might have been the culprit. I oft utilize the Cowl for little more than it's potent Feather ability, saving myself return trips to dungeons and ruins that I have cleared. When I returned from defeating Black Brutus, in the second quest in this series, I was wearing the cowl to enable myself to carry all of the Black Bow's gear and loot. I made the mistake of turning in the quest with the Count prior to selling off my sizeable inventory, requiring the use of the Cowl to transport. When I left the main audience chamber of Castle Leyawiin, the guards were not only chasing me (becuase of the Cowl) but the also killed Mazoga. I can only guess that the AI for Mazoga still had her set to fight alongside my character, thereby attempting to defend her against the Leyawiin Guards. I hope this helps, Blessings! 70.212.85.168 18:49, 15 September 2008 (EDT)Lady Grey
Skipped Dialogue
Moved from article
"Sometimes when you get to the camp Mazoga will skip the dialouge and simply attack, you won't get a quest update and either mazoge will die, or you will kill all the bandits and get the "I got into a fight" update."
- "Sometimes" is vague. What causes this to happen? Mazoga has a +20 disposition bonus with Mogens Wind-Shifter and his gang, so it seems unlikely to just happen... --Timenn < talk > 09:42, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Nope, I had this problem too, reloaded a save that I made immediately after arriving at the shrine nearby after fast travel and tried again and It went smoothly, the only differance between the two occurances was the first time, she got in a fight with a spriggan along the way, other than that it just happened
- I had this same problem. What I found though, was that along with the four named bandits, there is an unnamed "bandit" also in the camp at the time, and she is hostile to both me and Mazoga. When we approach, she attacks, and when Mazoga defends herself, all of Mogens' team attack to defend the bandit. I got around this by fast traveling to fort redman, telling Mazoga to wait, walking into camp so the bandit would attack (did not defend myself so as not to provoke the others). Leading her away from camp, I then proceeded to slaughter her without her fellow (named) bandits learning of this. After that, I was free to take Mazoga into the camp without any problems.
- Also, a little side note, if the Unicorn is your current horse, it'll screw up your quest by killing all parties involved (except, possibly yourself).Justeazy 05:34, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Skipped Dialogue Solution
I just encountered the skipped dialogue problem but was able to find a solution by replaying it several times (luckily I had saved before entering the camp). I got to Fisherman's Rock well ahead of Mazoga (because my agility/athletics are high) so I had some time to wait before she arrived.
Try #1: While waiting, I chatted with all four bandits. Suddenly she appeared (when I spoke to her, she told me to get out of the way), and began to kill all the bandits. Then the game told me that *I* killed the bandits!
Try #2: While waiting, I crouched just outside camp. She appeared but would not go further. I decided to run out into the camp to see if she would follow. She did... but the same thing happened... she just started killing everyone and got mad at me for killing them.
Try #3: While waiting, I ran around to the far side of the camp, and climbed on the tallest rock by the tents so I could see what was going on. I was hoping by being on the other side of camp, this would prompt Mazoga to mosey on in by herself. She did. This time the game progressed normally and she gave her speech. Mazoga dies after we kill the bad guy at Fisherman's Rock
I go to the king to tell him of Mazoga, and as soon as I enter, the guards jump her. I run as fast as I can to the King, he informs me of how to become a Knight. She is dead before I can get back to her... the quest completes just as fast as I got it. Is it still possible to kill brugo and become a white knight? - Unfortunately, no. There may be several causes for this problem, either you have the Sanguine quest active or any other quest that makes guards want to attack you. Try reloading a save previous to starting the quest. --SerCenKing 05:22, 4 February 2009 (EST)

Flying Khajiit at fishermans rock.
The female Khajiit at fishermans rock for some reason flys as soon as the ground changes elavation(fyi when she moves down the hill). And yes i have seen this more than once. But what happens is she runs and then she just floats in mid air and it makes it impossible to hit her for some reason, and it happens everytime. I'm not sure why she does this but she seems to be the only person at the camp that does it. Anyone know what causes it?
Work-Around
I had started the Mazoga quest long before I started the Sanguine Quest. But I have figured out a way of completing both quests, and was quite surprised that I did since everyone has had issues with it. If you don't mind Mazoga being killed in the end, here's how I went about it.
1. Since I had already started the Mazoga quest, but had only gone as far as talking to Weebam-Na, Mazoga stands in the castle waiting for me to take her to Fisherman's Rock. I went in and helped her kill the two guards that started randomly attacking her. (Casting heal other spells or chameleon over 100% and kill the guards yourself). Then lead her almost all the way to Fisherman's Rock.
2. Go back and finish the party prank. Return and get your gear from Sanguine.
3. Finish taking Mazoga to Fisherman's Rock.
4. No matter how fast you are, she will always load right in front of you when you enter Leyawin Castle. Run as fast as you can to the count and tell him that she was doing it for revenge/honour.
5. Go back to Mazoga and help her kill the guards again (heal other/chameleon) and then talk to her about Black Bruno. tell her to wait here.
6. Go kill the Black Bow Bandits yourself and then fast travel back to the castle.
7. Talk to the count and receive your reward. Unfortunately Mazoga will be dead in the middle of the castle entrance, but she isn't essential to your quests anymore.

Sir Mazoga
Ironically enough, she knows the difference between male and female: If you play a female character, and, when asked if you are the Count, you reply with: "Yes", she 'll respond "You 're a liar. The count is a man. And you aren't a man". 80.240.17.155 15:47, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
