Faction(s) | Fences; Thieves Guild (Prowler ) Leyawiin |
Dar Jee, an Argonian living in Leyawiin, is the second Thieves Guild fence. His barter services are only available after you have joined the guild and been promoted to the rank of Bandit by completing the quest The Elven Maiden. He also enjoys telling racist jokes about Khajiit.
He lives a rather simple life, although he can be considered a night owl. He sleeps in his house on the east side of town every day from 6am to 12pm. After waking up, he will head to the Five Claws Lodge where he will shamelessly try to steal food from the publican, Witseidutsei. If he succeeds, he will find himself a nice spot where he can sit and enjoy his breakfast for two hours.
On Morndas, Middas, and Fredas, he will then head over to the pool near The Dividing Line for a four-hour swim. On Sundas, after his breakfast, he heads to the Chapel of Zenithar, receives a blessing from Arkay, and then prays for four hours until 6pm. On all other days, he will wander near his house. At 6pm, he heads back to the Five Claws to eat dinner before returning to the alley near his house at 8pm. He then spends ten hours here until his 6am bedtime. During the Drunk and Disorderly quest, he will skip his visits to the Five Claws and remain indoors instead.
He offers his illegal bartering services at all times, provided you have fenced enough stolen goods and have the rank of Bandit. Like most other fences, he will try to remain as discreet as possible and will not offer you his services while traveling from one place to another.
Dar Jee's outfit includes the rare zero weight dark shirt, with a pair of laced leather pants and stitched leather shoes. He also carries the key to his house and a small amount of gold.
DialogueEdit
From the very first time you meet him, he will begin to tell you racist jokes about Khajiit:
- "I'm Dar-Jee [sic]. I'm a Khajiit in disguise. Want to see me lick my butt? Hahaha! That one never gets old!"
If you ask him about the city of Leyawiin, he will instead ask if you want to hear another joke:
- Leyawiin
- "Want to hear a Khajiit joke?".
- No.
- "Oh. No sense of humor? Your loss."
- Go ahead.
- "Why do Khajiit lick their butts?"
- Why?
- "To get the taste of Khajiit cooking out of their mouths! Hahaha! A real thigh-slapper, that one, eh? Phew. I heard lots others, only I can't remember them."
- I heard that one.
- "Oh. Well. I heard lots of others, only I can't remember them."
If you're not yet a member of the Thieves Guild, all five fences will deny trading in stolen goods if trying to barter with them:
- "I don't know what you are talking about. I don't buy or sell things."

Quest-Related DialogueEdit
Independent ThieveryEdit
If you are not a high enough rank to use his services yet, he will direct you toward Ongar the World-Weary when you attempt to barter with him:
- "I only serve higher ranking Thieves Guild members. Go see Ongar in Bruma."
When you have progressed far enough in the questline, Thieves Guild doyens S'Krivva and Armand Christophe will mention Dar Jee:
- Dar Jee the Fence.
- "Dar Jee lives in Leyawiin. He doesn't have much money, but he's got more than Ongar."
Once in Leyawiin, if you ask a beggar to direct towards the fence and drop them a few coins, they will oblige:
- "Bless you! Dar Jee lives east of the temple."
Now that you are of the appropriate rank in the Thieves Guild, he will be all business and no jokes when he greets you:
- "Are you looking for a fence?"
If you can use his services, when you ask him where you can find a fence, he will say:
- "Yes. I buy stolen property. Shall we negotiate?"
When you begin your transaction with him, he will say:
- "Show me your stuff."
If his disposition toward you is greater than 60, he will be more excited:
- "This should be good!"
While you are bartering with him, he may make some remarks on the transactions that are unique to him:
- Buy an item: "I accept such low prices only for guild members."
- Sell an item: "Deal! I can sell it for twice that price, to the right customer."
- Offer refused: "No deal. Better I should steal it myself."
Once you have finished your shady dealings with him, he will remind you to keep your cool:
- "Just walk away like you don't know me."
RumorsEdit
The townsfolk of Leyawiin, regardless of race, are not particularly amused with Dar Jee's jokes. In conversations and when asked for rumors, they will say:
- "What do you think of the Khajiit jokes Dar Jee has been telling?"
- "Have you heard any of Dar Jee's jokes?"
Others will simply just comment on the jokes:
- "Terrible jokes. Just terrible."
- "I've heard them. They're pretty stupid."
Unused DialogueEdit
Based on unused player-only dialogue topics, it seems that Dar Jee was supposed to tell a lot more jokes. His used dialogue is internally known as LeyawiinTopicDarJee01
to 04
. The unused variants go from 05 up to 21, implying at least eight jokes being removed. The topics are presented chronologically, although this order doesn't entirely seem to match up with how the jokes are presented in the final game.
- I heard that one.
- I don't think so.
- I'm not sure. Tell me one.
- I heard that one.
- No. How?
- No, thanks.
- All right.
- I heard that one.
- I don't know. How?
- No.
- Well... I suppose so.
- Heard it.
- Heard it.
- Tell me.
- Please, Gods, no.
- Not right now, thank you.
- Heard it.
- Well... I suppose so.
NotesEdit
- Dar Jee is one of two Argonians in the base game to have a name consisting of two words, but not have it be hyphenated, like is the norm for Argonians. The other beeing Geem Jasaiin.
- Unlike Geem, Dar Jee's name does use a hyphen in his own introduction.
BugsEdit
- The door to Floyd Nathan's House in Blankenmarch is owned by Dar Jee and the house is identical to Dar Jee's house, suggesting it was copied and pasted without changing ownership.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.1.0, fixes this bug.
- The door to M'dirr's House in Border Watch is similarly owned by Dar Jee.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.5.8, fixes this bug.
