The Mentor's Ring (Legends)

The Mentor's Ring is a prized possession for any apprentice to magic. It lends the wearer the ability to increase their intelligence and wisdom, thus making their use of magic more efficient. The High Wizard Carni Asron is said to be its creator, and he loaned it to apprentices while they were studying under him. After Asron's death, the ring and several other of his possessions vanished and have been circulated throughout Tamriel.[1]

The last living dwarf, Yagrum Bagarn, at one point befriended the sorcerer Divayth Fyr.[2] At Fyr's behest, Yagrum Bagarn wrote a book that would later be known as Tamrielic Lore[3]:241 from the notes that he gathered over the centuries, listing the Mentor's Ring among the artifacts of "unimaginable significance".[1] By the Interregnum, copies of this book circulated throughout Tamriel, providing some general information on the artifact to its readers.[4]

By 3E 427, rumors circulated that the Mentor's Ring was lost by a wielder in a Dunmeri Ancestral Tomb in the Bitter Coast on Vvardenfell.[5] The rumors contained some truth to it, as it was found in the area within the Samarys Ancestral Tomb, where it was stored within a ceremonial ash urn belonging to a Lord Brinne. The ring would later be recovered by the Nerevarine.[6] The Mentor's Ring was later found in a body of water by the Last Dragonborn while fishing circa 4E 201.[7]
