Bentior, a Breton food vendor, is the publican of The Restful Watchman, a notorious inn in Bruma's southern district, known for its underworld connections.
While he complains about his establishment's reputation, there is some foundation to it. He will ask you to convince Cerendil to drop charges against him and will provide useful information on the antiques thief during Absent Antiquity.
Bentior spends most of his days caring after the bar, only catching some sleep from 2am to 8am on the bedroll behind the counter.
He wears barkeeper clothes and a pair of matching shoes, and is armed with a steel dagger. He also carries the key to the inn and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, rings, food and drink.

DialogueEdit
When greeting you he will cheerily say:
- "The Restful Watchman. Rooms and food, that's what we do. What do you need?" and "I've got rooms, I've got food. And drinks. And a thousand elven ladies under my belt. Hahahaha."
If you ask if he gets much trouble in the inn, he'll flare up:
- "Seems to me you're STARTING trouble, asking questions like that. This is a fine establishment. We don't pretend to be more than we are, though. Now, what can I get you?"
Similarly, comment on the state of the inn and its clientele he will growl:
- "Then go over to Jerall View if it suits you better. Me, I think this inn has more character than mister Stantus Fancypants's little establishment."
If you ask for any rumors he will confide:
- "Alammu Nethre, Dark Elf girl, she's wanting adventurers to help with something. Not sure what."
Although further requests will only net you:
- "A little birdie told me that you're annoying me."
If you're playing as a High Elf, he will warn you:
- "Don't often get Altmer here. And I see you're already making my customers nervous. Listen, you can stay, but don't poke your nose any further than it's wanted."
While bartering, he will exclaim:
- "Cheap and cheerful."
- "Okay. If any of it's gone off, just let me know."
ConversationsEdit
You may overhear an exchange between guard captain Adius Vilius and Thalmor Justiciar Armion regarding Bentior:
Armion: "I don't trust the Restful Watchman or her owner. Too many suspicious characters there. I want you to conduct a search of the premises for evidence of Talos worship."
Adius: "Don't worry, a search was conducted just last week. On heavier grounds than suspicion, I might add. We didn't find anything - well, nothing related to Talos worship, at the least. So consider that a burden lifted."
BugsEdit
- Bentior was meant to have a number of conversations with Serulius the Stagnant, but as the beggar never visits the inn, you will never hear them. ?
- Bentior "No, Serulius. I can't have you in here."
- Serulius "What?! Why?"
Bentior: "Maybe because the last time you came in here you drank half my stock of ale, threw it up, and then passed out across the bar!" Serulius: "But I-" |
Bentior: "You got into a bar fight yesterday! With an imaginary person! You broke four chairs basically fighting with yourself!" Serulius: "To be fair, I had eaten some suspicious mushrooms that day. And-" |
Bentior: "Just last week you got so drunk you kept hitting on me and calling me sweetheart!" Serulius: "Well, Bentior, not to offend you or anythin', but you do kinda look like a woman." Bentior: "I... I..." Serulius: "Sweetheart, I'm sure we can work this out-" |
Bentior: "You stole my sign!" Serulius: "But-" |
- Bentior: "No! I've had the last of you, beggar. Get out, or I'll have someone escort you out."
Bentior is also blackmailing Stenar Ceno with the knowledge of the latter's Talos worship, but again, as Stenar never visits the Watchman, you'll never hear this exchange:
- Stenar: "Here. This is what I've made thus far. Are you satisfied?"
- Bentior: "Stenar, Stenar, Stenar... This doesn't even begin to cover my silence."
- Stenar: "Bentior, you can't--"
- Bentior:"Ah, ah, my friend. Better watch that temper of yours. You wouldn't want me to go blabbing to that Thalmor freak about your little secret, now would you?"
- Stenar: "...No."
- Bentior "That's what I thought. Now, I expect I'll be seeing you again next week, yes?"
- Stenar: "You...you're a bastard, you know that?"
- Bentior "Hey now. Times are tough, pal. I'm just taking advantage of every...opportunity. Now move along. I got customers."
