Welcome :)Edit

Hello! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you, on the other hand, would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at this link:

  • Userboxes: near complete list of userboxes, including a guide to make your own

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun!

You seem to be doing great with all this stuff already, but since no one else has welcomed you yet I figured I would. :) -Alphabetface 22:08, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

EtiquetteEdit

In regards to this edit, please be careful about how you word your comments. Talk pages are meant for discussions about issues relating to an article and its improvement, not complaints about how an article is "messy" or "bad". If you have specific suggestions for how to improve an article, by all means bring them to the talk page for discussion. But you should say it in a way that makes it sound like you're looking for improvement, not instigation. You may want to review our etiquette policy, as it contains important information about how wiki editors are expected to conduct themselves in community discussions. Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 23:26, 13 April 2015 (GMT)

Everything I said was true, and the changes I suggested would result in a more useful Wiki page. I post when I see where the Wiki can be improved. It's an incredible resource to ES gamers, but it certainly isn't fulfilling its potential. There's definitely a cliquey culture here that controls the look and feel of the Wiki, and the clique doesn't really seem to have much of a knack for imparting information to those who don't already know the answers. In this day and age of pervasive information and instant communication, I find it ironic (and sad) that communication skills are eroding. That's the reason for my tone. If you feel like your ideas would be an improvement, then by all means implement them. But when you say something is bad or say it should be fixed and proceed to not do anything about it, you don't come across as being helpful; you come across as someone who's complaining for complaining's sake. If you're not sure whether or not your edits are in line with our editing style, it's always a good idea to ask for input on the talk page. But when you do, it needs to be phrased politely, because rude comments tend to be dismissed in conversation, and any validity they may have had is much more likely to be overlooked than if they were said in a nicer way.
Similarly, if there's something you're unsure about with regards to how the wiki operates, you can always read the links that were left on your talk page with the welcome message. We give those links to every registered user, and they are notified upon receiving the links. We also have mentors, admins, and patrollers, all of whom are readily available and willing to answer questions from anyone at any time. But just like with messages on the article talk page, questions are more likely to be taken seriously when they're phrased politely instead of derisively. I get the sense that you're frustrated, and that's perfectly okay. But as I've already mentioned, we have policies that dictate what is and isn't acceptable for community discussions, and there are consequences for continued failure to follow those policies.
