Dragon font templateEdit
I saw that the dragon font template uses some replace tags, but I couldn't figure out exactly what they were doing or replicate them. Do they convert numbers phonemes or phonemes into numbers? Could the template be modified to read a dragon word (as in it could read RaaN instead of R1N)? Chris3145 00:03, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- It replaces numbers into phonemes (R1N to Raan). This is done for the mouseover text. I don't think it is a good idea to do it the other way around, because sometimes in the game two symbols are used when it could be replaced with a single symbol (for example Rorik's Steading in Skyrim:Holdings_of_Jarl_Gjalund). Distinguishing between these two is then no longer possible. Of course distinction between upper and lower could be used. In the game files the multi symbol characters are also stored as numbers, so I don't think adding a conversion would add much. I shall add a key for the numbers to the template doc, so it becomes clear how they are replaced. CoolGamer 00:22, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

- A similar template could potentially be created that doesn't change the font being used. That way a shout like Aura Whisper could simply have words=L1S Y4 N7 and the letters category could be dropped. I don't know if it's really worthwhile, though. Chris3145 00:30, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

- I've updated the template to replace RaaN to R1N (but RAAN isn't). Using both 1 or aa is possible. Other characters must be upper case. This should be enough to drop the letters category. CoolGamer 00:42, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim IconsEdit
Hey, I noticed you put the Ore and Ingot icons up there. Good job with those, though I was planning to do those next. We might want to coordinate who does what so we don't end up duplicating work. For instance, please don't do the food/beverage icons, as I've already put a bunch of work into those, and they'll be going up later today. What we've got left is gems (both soul- and regular), weapons, armor and clothing (not looking forward to those), books, scrolls and keys (not sure if we really need those honestly), other miscellaneous items, both useful and otherwise, and last but certainly not least the spell effects, which are going to be the hardest since they overlap the description box, though they're arguably the most important of all of them. I'm really getting tired of seeing the Oblivion icons on those pages. --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:24, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- You too a nice job on the icons for the potions and the poisons. It's indeed better if we coordinate to prevent doing double work. I will pick up the spell effects then. - Try a couple before you go and do them all - I think I have a method which might work for these, though it still involves a bit of hand-editing to get the description box out of some of them. I'd love to be able to do them animated, but I don't think that's going to be possible. (For one thing because they'd have to be .gifs, which have crappy one-bit alpha.) Plus, I think they're technically particle effects, since they don't seem to loop, so you'd have a skip in the animation if you tried that. Oh, I also forgot we need all the animal hides/leather stuff, pieces of Dwemer metal, etc. Basically anything used for crafting. - The magic effects render fine in the Creation Kit. So I can render them there, without having to edit the description box out of the image. When looking at the animation I also think it won't be possible to save them as GIFs, since the animation is build up from multiple components that don't have the same length. -CoolGamer 12:32, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

- Oh, really? I looked in the CK, but I couldn't find that feature. Anyhow, my plan was to use a normalized greyscale version of the effect against a black background as an alpha channel and see how that looked. But I'll see what you come up with first. - Yeah, I remember that discussion. I didn't have Skyrim at the time, so I couldn't participate, but I gathered that the lack of a truly black background was the major limiting factor in getting true transparency. I've solved that by just modding an all-black room into the game. Now if we could mix the animation stuff with the background, it could be done, but again, the problem with animation is that the only animated format that works at all on UESP is animated gifs, which are limited to one-bit alpha (either fully transparent or fully opaque, nothing in between), so they look crappy. If it's a choice between animation and smooth alpha, I'd choose the alpha. Maybe make a non-alpha .gif animation just for the page, but keep the icons as static .pngs so they look decent. (←) I don't think animations will look good on the articles. Also they are hard to make. I've made the images and I will upload them tomorrow to the wiki. The images were made in the Creation Kit. Each spell has an attached menu display object (the names of these objects start with MAGINV…). There are a total of 21 different display objects (excluding those for the Shouts). These objects I've put in a cell and paused the animations. First I took a screenshot on a gray background, after that on a black background. The difference between these two images I used to obtain the alpha value and to recover the color. -CoolGamer (talk) 17:17, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
