If anyone is reading this, then I am probably long dead.
I used to be a noble in a decadent land. A land that was all about ancestors, protocols, and titles. I was educated, I had a decent position, I had wealth.
I had a man I truly loved. But I had a life I truly hated.
And it turned out there were others like me. People fed up with the stagnancy of the Isles. People who thought we had forgotten who we had once been. People who forsook Auri-El and the others and embraced Azura, Mephala, and Boethiah.
Veloth the Pilgrim led them.
An opportunity presented itself, so I had to make a choice. And I did. I left my beloved and followed Veloth and the others to Resdayn. To a new, better life.
My beloved did not follow. But he gave me the work of his life: the Aetherial Mirror.
It is an artifact that can do wonders. As he often mentioned, a soul gem and Aetherial energy is required to use it. But that is not all. Another item is necessary to focus the Mirror's temporospatial scope. This item can be basically anything. Only with it shall the user witness the Mirror's wonderful properties.
There was not a day when I would not wonder if I made the wrong choice. After I left the Isles, I found out that I was pregnant. I never wrote to my beloved, Nelathendil, about that. I never dared.
In the end I settled here, within the City of the Shield. Now I am old. My son will carry my legacy forward - and Nelathendil's. And I will never stop wondering what would have been if I had stayed.
Long have I thought about what to do with the Mirror. Its power can cause envy, murders, even wars. But it is also beautiful. I could not destroy it. I am not even sure if I would know how.
In the end, I used magic and my associates to split it into ten pieces and hide them across Tamriel. I left one piece with me, as well as the offering box.
I have left clues to find the other pieces in this journal. If you are of pure heart, and your determination is strong enough, you will find it. If not, you will perish trying.
And if you do find it, remember the story of the pair of Mer split by fate.
