Faction(s) | East Empire Company (Negotiator) |
Mette Black-Briar is a Nord merchant and a Negotiator in the East Empire Company. She can be found in her office in Old Ebonheart, and has a tangential role during the events of the East Empire Company quest, 'Empty Mines, Empty Coffers', as you attempt to address a complaint by Great House Redoran that the company sold them an 'ebony' mine without mentioning the apparent lack of ebony.
Indeed, it becomes clear that Mette's role is to offload mines that the Company does not find profitable enough to run by itself. During 'Iron and Blood', she will attempt to sell you the iron mine of Anbarsud, which - as it transpires - is filled with vampires. She explains the rationale for all the mine sales if pressed on a deal that she signed with House Hlaalu during 'Art of the Deal'.
She wears an expensive shirt, a pair of expensive pants, and a pair of extravagant shoes. She wields a Silver Shardsword, and carries the Briricca Report of 3E 426 and 100 random gold.
Aside from her natural resistance to shock, immunity to frost, ability to shield herself, and a natural frost damage spell, she knows the following spells: Charisma, Great Resist Common Disease, Great Resist Fire, Great Resist Frost, and Iron Will.

DialogueEdit
- (If you have started 'Bank Run'):
- Briricca update:
- "With my new Hlaalu deal, we should save so much in tolls that we won't need that loan any longer or will be able to invest it in even bigger, bolder projects."
- (If you have started 'Talking Shop'):
- close a deal:
- "Yes, I'm closing a deal with the Hlaalu as we speak. Final stages. It'll be great."
- (If you have started 'Follow the Money'):
- "I don't know how many times I told that fool if he kept waving his cash around the locals, he was bound to get into trouble. He never listened."
- (If you have found Marki's corpse):
- "So long, old friend. May you reach Kyne's hearth."
- Marki's work:
- "It's very impressive work, but a lot of effort. Better you than me to shoulder it."
- (If you have started 'Tough Customer'):
- "Ask Quilmaro."
East Empire Company: Empty Mines, Empty CoffersEdit
- ebony mine:
- "Oh, that mine. I could have told you that didn't have any ebony left in it; why do you think it was for sale? To let some Vvardenfell Dunmer pretend to be prospectors and waste their time digging while we do actual important work. But I understand the predicament we're in. I've got a friend named Gudrunda at the Old Ebonheart Imperial Archaeological Society that may have something that can detect ore. If there's a single piece of ebony in that mine our deal will have been valid."
East Empire Company: Paper TrailEdit
- Briricca report:
- "Not my job, %PCRank. But you've reminded me that Mero Maro wanted this for his end of it. Try and see the poor man gets it." (You receive the Briricca Report of 3E 426)
- "Right, Mero Maro asked for this. Today's his lucky day." (You receive the Briricca Report of 3E 426)
- "You'll excuse me, %PCRank. There's a deal with the Hlaalu Council Company that demands my full attention."
East Empire Company: Buying TimeEdit
- "Yes, let's be rid of it. Sailors love this stuff, so your friend Jodald may want to take it off our hands. Looking through the books, our scrib jerky surplus is worth 500 drakes. Try to get the guy to take it off our hands."
- shipping delays:
- "I'd recommend paying a visit to Ma'Shavir, our resident savant, and investing in some mercantile training before you speak to your new clients. They want fair compensation for these delays, but business isn't about what's fair; it's about what you can negotiate. Try and save yourself some cash."
East Empire Company: Art of the DealEdit
- five-thousand-drake ransom:
- "I'll pray to Stuhn on your behalf. That's about as much as I can help you."
- Priority Shipping Act:
- "You want to know how I closed it, don't you? I'll tell. Though ebony and glass are among our specialties here at the East Empire Company, it's not really our job to dig them up. We're supposed to let other people run the mines and buy from them. But a previous factor had the bright idea of buying and running some mines directly to 'save costs'. And it didn't work. And we've been selling them off ever since. Lately, the Hlaalu wanted to buy, and I said, "Sure, just stop taxing our ships to hell." It worked."
Imperial Legion: Death of an AgentEdit
- Raynil's Ledger:
- "You say this proves that Raynil Vando defrauded the Company? Very good. I'm sure the Factor will be pleased to see it. Thank you, Legionnaire. Take this for your trouble. While you're here, how about an interesting business proposition." (Removed Raynil Vando's Ledger from your inventory, and you receive 50 gold)
- (If you have already completed 'Iron and Blood'):
- "You say this proves that Raynil Vando defrauded the Company? Very good. I'm sure the Factor will be pleased to see it. Thank you, Legionnaire. Take this for your trouble." (Removed Raynil Vando's Ledger from your inventory, and you receive 50 gold)
- "The Company is appreciative. And I know just how to reward you. I've got a business proposition that's going to make us both rich."
- (If you have already completed 'Iron and Blood'):
- "The Company is appreciative. That concludes our transaction."
- (If you don't have Raynil Vando's Ledger):
- "What ledger? Do you have it?"
Iron and BloodEdit
- Greetings:
- "You look like you could pass for an adventurer. I've got a business proposition you may be interested in."
- "Come to hear my business proposition once more?"
- "Is this about the business proposition? I've been waiting to hear back from my foreman for quite some time."
- business proposition:
- "The East Empire Company has recently acquired the deed to an abandoned iron mine. For only six hundred septims YOU can be a majority shareholder. Don't wait -- this opportunity could be snatched up by someone else. Will this make a profit? With a lot of hard work, and I do mean a lot, yes! I can tell you're not from around these parts. This could be passed down your family line for generations and establish you here in Morrowind. What do you say; will you accept this offer?"
- Yes.:
- "Wonderful! The name of the mine is Anbarsud. Luckily for you, we've already begun preparations. Head to the mine and meet our scout Eraris Verenim. He'll help you check out the mine, then we'll start getting things back to normal. The mine is far to the southwest of Old Ebonheart. It's in a huge quarry north-northwest of Arvud, or directly southwest of Menaan." (Removed 600 gold from your inventory)
- (If you don't have the gold):
- "You don't appear to have enough money to cover this, I'm afraid. Don't worry, I'll hold it for you just in case. Hurry back now!"
- No.:
- "Oh well. If you ever change your mind, you know where to find me."
- "Have you met with Eraris yet? He should be waiting for you at the mine."
- (If Eraris Verenim is dead before being confronted by Budak):
- "Did something happen at the mine? My reports from Eraris have stopped. That isn't like him. I'm afraid our plans must stop here for the time being. If we have no further business, %PCName, I must leave you to it then." Goodbye
- "I'm afraid these plans are over."
- (If you have been confronted by Budak and saved Eraris Verenim's life):
- "You say there's a vampire infestation? In our iron mine? It's more common than you think. I'm afraid pest control falls outside of my jurisdiction. However, you managed to save the life of one of our best foremen, and for that I must reward you generously." (You receive 600 gold)
- (If you have been confronted by Budak and Eraris Verenim is dead):
- "You say there's a vampire infestation? In our iron mine? It's more common than you think, I'm afraid. Pest control falls outside of my jurisdiction."
- "I'm afraid pest control falls under your jurisdiction."
More Blood Than IronEdit
- business proposition:
- "Well done with the vampires, %PCName. I'm afraid our business partnership is at an end."
- (If you accepted Budak's choice to become a vampire):
- "I'm not sure I like the way you're looking at me. Let's call this whole thing a wash, shall we?"
- vampire infestation:
- "We can't get our workers in there with vampires running about. Get rid of them for me, and I can promise you a reward."
- (If you already killed all of the vampires in Anbarsud):
- "You already killed all the vampires? Well, that's very resourceful of you. This should make our operations go more smoothly. I hope you weren't bitten while you were there; that could make things a bit complicated for both of us." (You receive 500,000 gold)
- Continue:
- "Unfortunately, our associate in that region contracted a terrible case of the Droops. He'll need bedrest for at least a few months, if not more. The higher-ups have decided to put our partnership on hold, infinitely. Such is the life of an entrepreneur, I'm afraid. If any other vampire infestation jobs come up I'll be sure to let you know."
- "The vampires of the Anbarsud Iron Mine have to be removed before we can start our operations."
- "Well done! I heard some vampires had been harassing our other agents in that region as well. This should make our operations go more smoothly. I hope you weren't bitten while you were there; that could make things a bit complicated for both of us." (You receive 500,000 gold)
