Varondil is an Ayleid ghost that can be found in Belarata. In life, he was wealthy and powerful, nicknamed "Varondil the Gold". He spent nine years together with his love, Elanwe, before she was killed by their slaves, and Varondil himself died fighting in an uprising in the north. Elanwe's spirit had summoned Varondil's, but she did not recognize him and sealed a barrier to keep him away. He longs for her to remember him again, and wishes to bring her with him, beyond death and to Aetherius.

Quest-Related DialogueEdit
If you bring down the barrier through the words, he will appear:
- "You are not Elanwe, yet you called me here. How?"
- Through words written a long time ago.
- "Still here after all this time... I had expected them to crumble with the ages."
- Who are you?
- "An old knight. Varondil the Gold, they called me! I had lands, titles, slaves...
- All dust, now. Even my love has forgotten me!"
-
- Your love?
- "Elanwe, Lady of the Weald! Surely they still sing of her? Her hair, bright as the sun! Her skin, pale as the moon. Nine years we were together, happy!
- Then the war... I'd gone north to fight the uprising and died there."
- Slaves? / You mentioned slaves?
- "An army of them. Side by side, they'd stretch from here to the Niben! But that was our downfall.
- So many slaves. We could not bring them to heel. Not all of them. They killed her before slithering away."
- What happened? / Are you buried with her?
- "She brought me here with words of light, but knew me not. When I went to her, she cast this barrier to keep me and all others away.
- I have been in this place ever since. Waiting."
-
- For what?
- "Release from this nightmare, what else? Elanwe remembers only the sword! Its enchantment blinds her to everything else!
- If I still had the sword, maybe..."
-
- What would you do with it?
- "Bring her with me. To Aetherius, to whatever lies beyond."
- Here, take the sword.
-
- "What? The sword? Give it to me!
- Were I alive, I could grant you such splendor! Alas, everything is dust. But I am forever in your debt."
-
-
If you give Varondil the sword, he thanks you and approaches the spirit of Elanwe.
- Varondil: "Elanwe, at long last I return."
- Elanwe: "Varondil? You have been gone only a day. It feels like an age."
- Varondil: "Each day is an age."
- Elanwe: "Yes, true, but you…where have you been?"
- Varondil: "It is a long story, but come! Aetherius awaits!"
- Elanwe: "Yes, together forever, as was always meant to be."
- Varondil: "So long, my friend, and thank you. For everything!"
