Detailed WalkthroughEdit
As you approach Hutan-Tzel, you'll hear Heem-Jas talking to Olik, worrying about something about holding back an entire brigade. Olik will tell him to stay out of it and then walk away. Talk to him, and he'll tell you about disappearances in his tribe, and that they have captured an imperial lieutenant that they may kill in anger before getting answers. He'll ask you to talk to the prisoner.
Brigadine Lieutenant Viria denies that his soldiers have anything to do with the disappearances, and says that his men have vanished as well. He gives you the lead he was investigating when the argonians grabbed him: a great number of beasts gathering at the water's edge. Then Olik will speak to you, dismissing the Lieutenant's words, and directs you to Heem-Jas in the northern swamps, east of town.
Once you meet with him, he'll follow you, though he'll cower whenever combat starts, as you search out four clues: Imperial tracks, an Argonian Totem, Mangled Corpses, and a Bright Dye Spill. Then follow the green footprints away from the spill towards the quest marker, up the stairs of the nearby pyramid, to the glowing totem at its top.
Heem-Jas will be disturbed by it and talk to you, saying that only an Argonian could have painted a runes that activated them. Unsure what else to do, he'll invite you to smash it, which will not work. He will then direct you to Naheesh Nurwul at Hutan-Tzel, and your objective will simply be to return to the tribe.
Talk to Naheesh when you arrive. She will tell you that to deactivate the totem, you'll need to enter the Xanmeer, which will require Imperial assistance, and Naheesh's Ward, which she provides. Talk to Viria, who agrees to speak to his commander, after which Naheesh frees him.
Go to the ruins. You can deactivate the purple barrier over the door now, and enter Xal Irasotl. In the second chamber, you'll find Olik trying vainly to destroy a totem, before turning to Heem-Jas and apologizing. He admits to turning the totems on to try and frighten the Imperials off, but now can't turn them off.
Naheesh arrives with the Imperials. Speak to her. She's tell you the secret to deactivating the three Ancient Lures, and direct you to do so. Afterward, return to the village to witness the reconciliation between the tribe and the Ivory Brigade. Talk to Nurwul and then Heem-Jas to complete the quest.
