Quest-Related EventsEdit

Speaking to him before accepting a quest:

"If you have a strong will or a strong sword-arm, I've got work for you. If you're going to idle about and hope some gold falls in your lap, walk on."
"Looking for work? I have more than enough to go around."
"Fighting Dragons is all fine and good, but they're not the only nasty problems out there. Want to hear more?"
"You love gold, right? Maybe glory? You can earn both. Let me tell you how."

Speaking to him with a quest active:

"May the Eight protect you. Naw, forget that. Sharpen your blade and protect yourself. Then come back when the job is done."
"Good fortune, friend. I'll see you soon."
"Don't hang about too long. Your target's certainly not going to."
"You've got a job to do, don't you? Doing it sooner is better."

You can ask him more about himself during any of his quests.

What do you do here?
"The Quartermaster of the Shields of Senchal has me pay groups to settle business out in the wilds. Don't take this wrong, but it's stuff too dangerous to handle alone.
Angry temple guardians, pariahs—all of them need killing."
Who are the Shields of Senchal?
"Oh-ho! Now there's a story. But I'll give you the short version.
The Shields of Senchal, formerly known as the Thirteenth Legion, protects this fine city of Senchal. Protects, mind you, not rules. The cats here seem quite taken with our efforts."
Legion? So, Imperial?
"Yes, we're Imperials. Emperor Aquilarios sent us over five years ago to help with the Knahaten Flu recovery. Now we're kind of stuck here, I guess. Good thing for the locals, too, considering. Bah. Dragons. Like we didn't have enough problems."
Why don't the Shields take care of the problems you're assigning out?
"They have other things to do?
But lucky you. These jobs keep the locals happy. That's good for business. General's all about business. It's good for you, too. You get gold from me when you help them all stay happy."

Returning to him after completing an objective:

"You stink of blood and sweat. Mmmmm, reminds me of my adventuring days. You finished my task, yeah?"
"My knees won't last as long as they used to. Wish I still had a bounce in my step. But enough of that. You were victorious, yeah?"
"So, how went the hunt? Wish I could've joined you, but between my back and my knees, I can barely make it to the tavern some days.
Oh, and no knee jokes, yeah?"
"You're back. Seem to have all your limbs, too, so that's good. How'd you fare?"

Speaking to him after turning in his quest for the day:

"You earned a rest. Besides, I don't have anything else for you today. Come back tomorrow, eh?"
"Eh, come back tomorrow. The sands and jungles of Elsweyr never stay quiet for long."
"You did good, yeah? Come back tomorrow and we can talk about other things that need killing."
"Good work today. Come back tomorrow. I should have more for you. Go and rest up."

Goutfang PariahEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"I guess these Khajiit adepts aren't such furballs. Wonder who will take these ones down?"

Speak with him.

Anything I can help with?
"Yeah. A Goutfang master fled an adeptorium, taking scrolls. The Khajiit want the scrolls back. Badly. They also want this pariah, as they call the master, dead.
If you find out what this pariah did, let me know."
They didn't tell you how the master became a pariah?
"Naw. The Khajiit don't usually call thieves pariahs, though. This Ri'Atahrashi earned the name another way.
To be clear, if you don't find out, you still get paid. Interested?"
Yes. I'll handle this.

You can ask him more about the task:

Do you have any thoughts on why the Khajiit consider this master a pariah?
"Since we don't think it was scroll theft? Probably this pariah broke some Goutfang tenet."
What tenets do Goutfangs have?
"I imagine the usual. Respect your masters. Keep your weapons and armor in good condition. Revere whatever Goutfangs revere. Don't be a blazing muskarse.
I only just started looking into this, so I'm fuzzy on the details."
And why are you so curious about this?
"We're surrounded by Khajiit here. Knowing what motivates them helps us figure out how best to work with them.
My younger self would just pound problems into the ground, but aching muscles make you find other ways to deal with the world."

Returning from finishing the task:

I killed Ri'Atahrashi and found the scrolls.
"Excellent. Here's your reward. But … huh. Were these scrolls scribbled on when you found them? Looks like someone stabbed them with ink and profanity.
Ah, wait, does vandalism of sacred Goutfang property make you a pariah? I'll chew on that."

Scholarly ObservationsEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"Scholars. Huh. This one should've done more research into how not to die."

Speak with him.

I'm looking for work.
"Lucky for us, I have work. It's tough, but it pays well.
Basically, a scholar decided to study a temple. Ran astray of a guardian. Now we want that guardian dead. Oh, and the scholar's friends want any notes you can find."
What kind of guardian?
"Something with lots of blades. Meridian, given that the temple's Meridian. Scholars … smart in some ways, not so much in others. Should've taken along skilled protectors.
Will you kill the guardian and find the notes?"
I'll kill the guardian and find the notes.

You can ask him more about the task:

What's so important about this temple?
"It's a temple of Meridia. The Khajiit claim no one uses it, but if a guardian's there ….
What I'm saying is, be careful. Meridia's not all sweetness and light. Well, not all sweetness anyway. Kick this guardian a few extra times for me, will you?"
You don't care much for Meridia, do you?
"Can't say that I do.
Look, some folk venerate the Lady of Infinite Energies like she's their personal savior. But I have stories about her greed that'll turn a baby's hair white. So, yeah. I don't like her one bit."

Returning from finishing the task:

The guardian is dead and I retrieved the notes.
"Glad you fared better than that scholar. And you have the notes. I'll let the friends know. Plus give them an earful about taking armed folk on their little field trips next time.
Thanks, and here's something for the effort."

Helping the HealersEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"Of course a killer's settled in right where a rare plant grows. Hope I can find people to handle this."

Speak with him.

Do you have work for me?
"Yeah, I do. A rogue Goutfang master's training students right on a patch of springmint. Our healers need it. Got to keep people fighting Dragons."
What makes this Goutfang a rogue?
"The Goutfangs are tight-lipped, but I poked around. Ri'Atahrashi studied forbidden fighting techniques and now teaches them to students. Not sure what these techniques are, but I bet you find out if you fight them.
Interested?"
Definitely. I'll kill the master.

You can ask him more about the springmint herb:

"Good fortune, friend. I'll see you soon."
What does springmint do?
"Not sure, really. Don't care much for plants. But the healers say the stuff's important to help soothe Dragon-inflicted wounds. And it's rare. They jabbered on about precise soil conditions, but I stopped paying attention."

Returning from finishing the task:

It's done. Ri'Atahrashi and his students are dead, and I gathered springmint for the healers.
"Huh. Springmint smells nice. Might want some for myself. Bet it soothes aches, and I've got plenty of those.
Anyway, you helped our forces by gathering this stuff for the healers, so thanks. Here's your reward."

Dust SmoteEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"Easy job, my arse. Meridian temple guardians scarred me more times than I can count."

Speak with him.

You need some help?
"Yeah, I do. I have a territorial Meridian guardian that needs killing. Some folk also need temple dust, which, coincidentally, the guardian protects."
Two tasks for the price of one?
"In terms of pay, which is handsome, no. Consider it more of an efficiency. Besides, you can't collect the dust if you don't deal with the guardian.
Hit it a few extra times for me. That is, if you're interested."
I'm interested.

You can ask him more about the task:

What's special about this temple dust?
"You're asking the wrong person. I recall something about special properties imbued into the temple stone, but then the mages lost me. Mainly sounds like a lot of Meridian nonsense. But I'll ask the mages and tell you when you come back."
Meridian nonsense?
"Yeah. Temple's a Meridian temple. You know, the Lady of Infinite Energies. She whose arse sheds light and nasty guardians. Maybe you didn't know she's also the Lady of Greed. Got some stories about how she collects people, too. Over ale, though."
So, why is a temple guardian protecting the dust?
"My experience with Meridian guardians tells me that it doesn't care about the dust. More about the fact that it's dust from the temple.
My advice? Don't ask the guardian anything. Just kill it."

Returning from finishing the task:

The guardian is dead and I retrieved some temple dust.
"Just in time. One of the mages came by to check on this. Claims this dust can reveal the past through visions if you drink it in a potion. I think the mage has already had too much to drink.
Thanks. Here's your reward."

A Rogue and His RiceEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"You'd think Goutfangs would respect folk trying to keep people fed."

Speak with him.

I'm looking for work.
"And I'm recruiting people who need work. Happy coincidence, yeah?
A rogue Goutfang and his students waylaid one of our supply caravans. Took a bunch of rice. We need that rice. We also need that group of adepts dead."
So, this Goutfang really likes rice?
"Ha. You're a funny one. Ri'Atahrashi made off with everything, so draw your own conclusions. The quartermaster needs the rice to provision folk. And I don't want to stare down a plate of overly sweet Khajiiti food again.
Will you do it? Pays well."
I'll do it.

You can ask him more about the task:

Why would a Goutfang master steal rice?
"Probably needs to feed himself and his students. He's not on good terms with his adeptorium, so food isn't easy to come by, I imagine."
Why isn't he on good terms with his adeptorium?
"About that. Watch for some strange techniques with this master. He learned forbidden styles and now teaches them to his students. No, don't ask what the techniques are. I don't know.
Take friends. I'd go myself, but I'm past my fighting days."

Returning from finishing the task:

Ri'Atahrashi and his students are dead, plus I have your rice for you.
"Well done. Although, come to think of it, I can't stand rice either. It feels like little maggots in my mouth. Maybe it's just the cook we have.
Appreciate your help. Here's a little something for the effort."

Fletching FetchingEdit

When you approach him, he'll grumble:

"Shortcut, my arse. Now we're down arrows thanks to some temple guardian."

Speak with him.

Do you have work for me?
"Yeah. A supply wagon driver, in their infinite wisdom, ignored our scouts' advice and took a shortcut. Through a guarded temple. We're short arrows now.
I need people who can destroy the guardian and retrieve some of our arrows."
Sounds like you need help?
"Yeah. A supply wagon driver, in their infinite wisdom, ignored our scouts' advice and took a shortcut. Through a guarded temple. We're short arrows now.
I need people who can destroy the guardian and retrieve some of our arrows."
What kind of guardian?
"One with lots of sharp edges. Meridian temple, so I'd say Meridian guardian. And we all know that Meridia's not all sweetrolls and smiles.
Can you kill the guardian and bring back some of those arrows? There's a reward in it for you."
I'll kill the guardian and retrieve the arrows.

You can ask him more about the task:

Has that guardian always been at the temple?
"From what the locals say? Yes. They have some tale about a Meridian cultist growing the place out of light. Not sure how much I believe that. Sounds like skooma was involved.
Or maybe they like pulling my nonexistent tail."
You mentioned Meridia before. Why do you dislike Meridia?
"Picked up on that, did you?
Meridia's not altruistic. No, she's got some qualities I'd call problematic. Greed, for one. And greed is bad enough in people like us, you know? In a Daedric Prince? It's way worse. So, yeah. Bad memories thanks to her."

Returning from finishing the task:

Iratan the Lightbringer is dead and I collected some arrows.
"You've done us all a great favor. That blasted guardian has plagued unwary travelers for a while now. Not sure why it's still so protective of that place still.
Thanks … and here's your reward!"
