Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Distraught SuitorEdit

As you approach Edrald Estate, a Breton man will run up and call to you for help. It is necessary to take the path to the main manor house to find him; he does not come down to the main road.

Speak to him to learn that his name is Federic Seychelle and he is engaged to Arlie Edrald, whose parents own this estate. Federic has been away making wedding preparations, but, since he returned, he has not been able to locate his fiancée or her family.

Start by checking the manor. As you look around, Federic will make comments. You will find the journal of Krisandra Edrald, Arlie's mother, upstairs in her room. The journal expresses concern over the relationship between Arlie and the servant, Dulkhi. Outside, check the nearby servant's quarters. Search the building to find Dulkhi's Diary on her bed. (Frederic may already have it in his hand; talking to him will progress the quest and place the journal in your quest items inventory.) The diary suggests that Dulkhi and Arlie had a tryst. It also mentions that they saw Krisandra hide something in the windmill. Head across the estate to the western windmill. You can search several locations both downstairs and upstairs. You can recover 3 irrelevant items plus an unusual key that opens the Edrald Undercroft. You can also find the first volume of Krisandra's journals, in which she expresses distress over the possibility that Dulkhi might ruin the planned marriage between Federic and her daughter. Question Federic to learn that Arlie's grandmother was a powerful mage and that Krisandra locked the undercroft once she passed away.

Daedric PortalEdit

Take the key back to the manor and downstairs to the basement. Unlock the trapdoor to enter the undercroft. There, after a brief investigation that yields another volume of Krisandra's journal and a treatise on Daedric portals, you will see a ritual site and 3 nearby basins. Use the clues in the book and Federic's comments to interact with the 3 nearby basins in the correct order — first Fire, then Earth, and then Water. Each time you interact with a basin, it will "attune" the portal site, creating a visual effect there. Doing this out of order will result in failed attunement. If you make a mistake, simply start over with Fire. Once you use the basins in order, a portal to the Deadlands will open up. Go through it.

Daedric Pocket DimensionEdit

The Sigil Stone

Upon entering the Deadlands, Federic will cry out and run to Arlie, who is sitting on the ground nearby. Dulkhi is also there. Arlie will tell you that Daedra emerged from the basement portal during the night and captured the family. She and Dulkhi managed to fight them off and escape, but her mother and father are still out there. She begs you to find them and says to take Dulkhi with you, as she needs to have a moment alone with Federic. Dulkhi will become a follower.

Allan Edrald can be found by heading southeast onto a peninsula, while Krisandra is on the southern portion of the largest island. Both are held to the ground by multiple spectral skeleton hands. You can rescue them in either order, but you will need to fight Daedric Scamps and Dremora to reach them. When freed, they will limp back to join their daughter and Federic. Whichever one you save last will also direct you to the next task: destroy the Sigil Stone connecting their basement to the Deadlands. The stone is being guarded by a Dremora named Velark on the raised structure nearby. Kill Velark and destroy the Sigil Stone, which will instantly transport you back to the undercroft.

Uncertain FuturesEdit

Nearby, you will see Allan sitting on the ground and Federic bent over him. Speak to Federic, who wants advice about what to do next. You can tell him to stay and be happy on the estate or leave to help people and learn to defend his loved ones. Similarly, Dulkhi wants to talk to you about her options after she noticed how much Arlie cares for Federic. She is on the ground floor of the manor, sweeping. You can tell her to go out into the world to make a name for herself or stay with Arlie. Either way, you will need to find Arlie next. She is outside, in front of the manor, reprimanding her mother. Speak to her to receive her gratitude and your quest reward.

A brief scene will follow in which Federic, Dulkhi, or both will come outside and converse with Arlie and the baroness. The dialogue will vary, depending on your earlier choices about who should go and who should stay at the estate. After the closing dialogue, if one or both decided to leave, they will walk to the edge of the property and disappear. The rest of the characters will remain on the estate and can be spoken to one last time to hear their feelings on how everything panned out.

NotesEdit

  • While the manor can be entered before starting the quest, the readable books won't exist until doing so.
    • The same applies for the book at the windmill.
  • The parents won't exist in the Deadlands until speaking with their daughter.
  • Velark exists the moment you enter the Deadlands, thus can be killed (and she will not respawn) before getting to the objective to destroy the Sigil Stone, though the stone itself can't be used until then.

Quest StagesEdit

A Change of Heart
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
With no other leads to go on, the manor house seems like a good place to begin our search.
Objective: Search the Manor House
In the chambers of the Baroness, we found a journal indicating she was most concerned about their servant, Dulkhi. A search of the servant's quarters may prove enlightening.
Objective: Search Dulkhi's Quarters
Federic found a journal in Dulkhi's quarters. Perhaps it will shed some light on what happened here.
Objective: Talk to Federic Seychelle
Dulkhi's Diary indicates an affair was going on between her and Arlie Edrald. What's more, it suggests that the Baroness hid something in the windmill not far from the estate.
Objective: Search the Windmill
Hidden away in a toolbox, we found a key to the manor undercroft. Perhaps we will find what we are searching for, there.
Objective: Enter the Undercroft
A thorough search of the Undercroft may be the only way to uncover what happened here.
Objective: Investigate the Undercroft
I located a ritual book detailing the process of opening a portal to somewhere called the Deadlands.
Objective: Achieve Minor Attunement

The book seemed to indicate the basins are the key to activating the gate. A note scrawled in the margin said that the fire basin is the one to start with first.

Objective Hint: Use Basins to Attune Oblivion Gate
I managed to affect a change in the atmosphere surrounding the Daedric gateway in the center of the Undercroft. I should continue experimenting with the basins to see what I can accomplish.
Objective: Achieve Major Attunement
Further success in my attempts to activate the gateway! These basins are the key.
Objective: Achieve Final Attunement
Objective: Attunement Failed
I managed to activate the Daedric portal. If the tome is correct, it should lead to somewhere known as the Deadlands.
Objective: Enter the Daedric Portal
We found Arlie Edrald and Dulkhi on the other side of the portal, evidently unharmed.
Objective: Rescue the Edrald Family

Arlie Edrald may know where I can find the rest of her family.

Objective Hint: Talk to Arlie Edrald

(Appears after you have spoken with Arlie.)
Dulkhi will accompany on [sic] my search for the Baron and Baroness Edrald.

Objective Hint: Save Allan Edrald
Objective Hint: Save Krisandra Edrald
With the Edrald family safe, I must see about destroying the Sigil Stone to ensure this portal remains forever sealed.
Objective: Destroy the Sigil Stone
Hidden Objective: Defeat Velark
The Edrald family has been safely returned to their estate. I should speak with Federic Seychelle and see if there is anything else I can do.
Objective: Talk to Federic Seychelle
(Stage will depend on choice made.) Federic Seychelle has decided to leave the Edrald Estate. Dulkhi wants to speak with me before I leave. OR
Objective: Talk to Dulkhi
(Stage will depend on choice made.) Federic Seychelle has decided to remain with the Edrald family. Dulkhi wants to speak with me before I leave.
Objective: Talk to Dulkhi
Finishes quest  (Stage will depend on choice made.)Federic Seychelle has elected to leave the Edrald Estate, while Dulkhi has resolved to stay. Arlie Edrald wants to speak with me before I go. OR

Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.

Needs stages where both leave, and federic stays while dulkhi leaves.
