Sir Roderic of Wayrest is an Imperial warrior added by the Knights of the Nine official download. He is a veteran of the War of the Bend'r-mahk and is first encountered on a pilgrimage of the Wayshrines of the Nine accompanied by his squire Lathon. Later, he will meet his demise in Underpall Cave while questing for the Greaves and Sword of the Crusader.
All of Sir Roderic's equipment is leveled: he may carry heavy boots, greaves, cuirass, gauntlets, and helmet (25% chance existence on the latter two). He will carry middle class shoes, pants, and a shirt, as well as a potentially enchanted longsword or claymore. He also has a 25% chance to carry two repair hammers.

Quest-Related EventsEdit
PilgrimageEdit
You will most likely meet Sir Roderic traveling with Lathon on the Green Road north of Bravil during the Pilgrimage quest. When first encountered, he will greet you by asking:
- "Well met, traveler. Have you heard the call of the Prophet? Do you walk the Pilgrim's Way?"
- Yes. I seek the Nine Wayshrines.
- "As do I. Perhaps we can share the road, as long as our paths lie together."
- No. Why do you ask?
- "No matter. I thought I detected the light of a divine purpose in your eye. Now, I must be on my way. The Pilgrimage of the Wayshrines is my only purpose now."
- That's none of your concern.
- "As you wish. I had no intention to impose myself on your affairs. Now, I must be on my way. The Pilgrimage of the Wayshrines is my only purpose now."
- Saint Pelinal came to me in a vision.
- "Indeed? You are most fortunate! I pray that I too may be worthy to receive such a divine command. Meanwhile, I will continue on my own pilgrimage. Fare thee well, my friend."
You can also ask him further questions:
- Pilgrimage
- "I have taken up the call of the Prophet to quest for the Crusader's Relics, and so I walk the Pilgrim's Way. Have you not heard what happened to the Chapel in Anvil?" (Before you speak to the Prophet)
- "I have taken up the Prophet's call to defend the Faith. Only a true knight wielding the Crusader's Relics can stop the evil that now threatens us. I walk the Pilgrim's Way, as did the questing knights of old. I would be glad of your company on the road, if your way lies with mine." (During quest)
- Crusader's Relics
- "The armor and weapons of the legendary Pelinal Whitestrake, the Divine Crusader. Knights have quested for them for thousands of years. But the Prophet says that the time has come for them to finally be recovered, lest the faithful be scattered and destroyed."
- Anvil Chapel
- "It was terrible. I've fought in many battles, but this... ... the priests and priestesses of Dibella, slaughtered within the very walls of her Chapel. The Altar itself desecrated! No one saw who did it. No one yet living, that is. Although many heard the screams. Speak to the Prophet, in Anvil. He knows what this portends. He says it is only the beginning."
- Prophet
- "He preaches outside the Chapel of Dibella in Anvil. No one knows where he comes from, but he speaks the holy word like I've never heard before. You see me now a changed man. Lathon can testify to that. Before I met the Prophet, I was nothing more than a hired sword. Go to Anvil. Speak to the Prophet. You, too, may find yourself taking up his holy quest, despite yourself." (Have not spoken to the Prophet)
- "You have heard him. Like me, you know he speaks the truth. If the Nine will it, I will be the one to recover the Crusader's Relics. Or, perhaps that honor will fall to you."
As you end a conversation with Sir Roderic he will call for the blessings of the Nine for your request as you part ways:
- "The blessings of the Nine upon your quest. Perhaps our paths will cross again."
Speaking to his squire will also provide you with further information:
- Sir Roderic
- "Sir Roderic is a famous knight of Wayrest, in High Rock. He is too modest to tell you himself, but he was a hero of the War of Bend'r-Mahk."
- Didn't Wayrest lose that war?
- "Well ... yes. But Sir Roderic won many battles all the same. I'm sure if we had more knights like him we would have beaten the Nords."
- I'm sure he's a mighty warrior.
- "He is! I've been his squire for almost two years now. Soon I'll be ready to return to Totambu and become a Knight of the Scarab."
At this point he will continue his pilgrimage, visiting all the shrines listed in the map you're handed by The Prophet in order: Zenithar, Stendarr, Kynareth, Julianos, Akatosh, Dibella, Mara, Arkay and Talos. At every shrine he will dismount and pray briefly before resuming his journey, although a bug may cause him to restart his loop from Stendarr's shrine.
Speaking to Sir Roderic now will have him inform you on which one of the Wayshrines he currently is traveling to:
- "I seek the blessing of Father Akatosh, who knows all things and protects us from the unseen threat. Who better to guide us in these dark days?"
- "Come with me, if you will, to the Wayshrine of Arkay. I will offer a prayer for the souls of those who died in the Nine's service."
- "I go to offer prayers to blessed Dibella, and to swear vengeance on those who profaned her Chapel and cruelly slew her acolytes."
- "Follow me, if you also seek the divine wisdom of Julianos. His Wayshrine is this way."
- "I seek the blessing of Kynareth. Come, pray with me to the Goddess of the Air. Her Wayshrine is up ahead."
- "Mother Mara will bless my quest, I'm sure. I would be glad of your company on the road, if you too wish to pray at her shrine."
- "Will you come with me to seek the blessing of Stendarr the Steadfast? The land is sore in need of righteous governance."
- "Talos, the Dragonborn, patron of questing knights, will surely look with favor upon us. Walk with me to his shrine, if you will."
- "I am on my way to the Wayshrine of Zenithar. Come with me and we shall seek Zenithar's blessing together, if you will."
At the end of the quest he is temporarily disabled along with Lathon. Nevertheless, you may overhear Imperials mentioning him:
- "Have you heard about that knight that's questing for the Crusader's Relics? What's his name... Sir Roderic, right?"
The Faithful SquireEdit
Once you complete the Priory of the Nine quest, Lathon will appear in the Priory and immediately seek you out with news of Sir Roderic's fate:
- "Sir knight! Thank Arkay you're back. I have terrible news. Sir Roderic... I think he's dead."
- Sir Roderic? Who's that?
- "My master. We met you on the Pilgrim's Way. Back when I thought for sure the gods had chosen him for a holy purpose."
- What happened?
- "At first things were going well. He prayed at all the shrines, and received a vision. A disturbing vision. "The shade of Sir Berich spoke to me," was all he said. "We must put him to rest." We travelled back and forth across Colovia. He was always asking about an old noble family, the Vlindrels. Finally, he found what he was looking for. We went to Underpall Cave, and there... he fell."
- I'm sure he died well.
- "He did. I owe him my life. He faced the evil wraith of Lord Vlindrel, and told me to run. And... I did. I know I should have stayed with him. Perhaps together we could have destroyed that evil thing..."
- Underpall Cave? I've been there.
- "Then you know it is a place of evil. Sir Roderic and I fought our way into the cave, which actually seems to be a buried keep. We made our way to Lord Vlindrel's crypt. Sir Roderic spoke the words that unsealed the tomb..."
- What was Sir Roderic looking for?
- "He said that Sir Berich's tomb was in Underpall Cave -- which is no cave, but some kind of buried keep. He had learned that Sir Berich had once been a questing knight, like us. He had found the Greaves and Sword of the Crusader, but then turned to evil. Sir Roderic hoped to find the Relics within Sir Berich's tomb. And he did. But we also found a terrible guardian -- the wraith of Lord Vlindrel -- Sir Berich."
- You know where the Relics are?
- "Yes, my lady/lord. And I brought you... Sir Roderic shouted for me to take them... the Greaves. The holy Relic. They're yours."
- And the Sword? What happened to it?
- "The wraith. It used it against Sir Roderic. I don't know how that evil thing could use the holy weapon, but it did. It screamed as it struck..."
- Take it easy. You're safe now.
- "I'm sorry. I remember Sir Roderic saying something about the Sword, before we went to Underpall... it may be important."
- You were telling me about the Sword?
- "I'm sorry. I've already failed Sir Roderic once. I don't want to fail him again. I remember he said something about the Sword, before we... He was worried that the Sword may have been turned to evil. That it may have to be reconsecrated on the altar of its creator, the divine Arkay. That's all I remember. I hope it may help you.""
The Sword of the CrusaderEdit
If you accept Lathon into the Order, he will accompany you to Underpall Cave to avenge his master. If you speak to him, he'll reveal more about Sir Roderic's ill-fated quest:
- Sir Roderic
- "He told me to run, but I shouldn't have listened. I should have stayed and helped him. Maybe together we could have defeated this wraith."
- Sword of the Crusader
- "The wraith of Lord Vlindrel used the Sword against Sir Roderic. I don't know how it twisted the holy sword to its evil purpose."
- Underpall Cave
- "It's not really a cave, but seemed to be the buried ruins of an old keep. Sir Roderic believed that it used to be the ancestral seat of Lord Vlindrel, before some cataclysm buried it beneath the earth."
Upon reaching Sir Roderic's body in the Underpall Reflecting Chamber, Lathon will say:
- "Sir Roderic... you were a brave knight and a good master. Long may your name be remembered in the annals of the Relics."
After this Lathon fight with you against the Wraith of Lord Berich Vlindrel, entering into battle with the cry:
- "For Sir Roderic!"
Once you've defeated the shade and recovered the Sword the former squire will say:
- "Sir Roderic is avenged! And you have recovered the Sword of the Crusader! I'll return to the Priory and give my fellow knights the good news. Farewell!"
Back at the Priory, Lathon will have a few more comments:
- Greaves of the Crusader
- "Sir Roderic died so that I could bring you the Greaves. Use them to good purpose."
- Sir Roderic
- "Sir Roderic has been avenged. Thank you. I wish he could have lived to join the Order."
BugsEdit
- Sir Roderic's package for travelling to the wayshrine of Stendarr is the only one without any conditions. As a result, speaking to Sir Roderic or otherwise causing his AI packages to be re-evaluated during his travels causes it to always be picked and for him to abandon his route and re-start from the shrine to Stendarr. ?
