Menien Goneld imprisoned in the Kvatch Oblivion World

Menien Goneld is an Imperial warrior imprisoned in the Plane of Oblivion at Kvatch. There is no way to rescue him. His fate after closing the Kvatch Oblivion Gate is unknown.

The first mention of Menien is during the encounter with Ilend Vonius, just through the Kvatch Oblivion Gate. He will tell you that, "They took Menien off to the big tower. You've got to save him!"

As soon as you enter the Reapers Sprawl tower, you will hear Menien yell, "Over here! Quickly!" or "In the cage! Over here!", which he will yell from time to time until you've talked to him. His only possession is a pair of sack cloth pants. Menien takes his situation stoically and is interested only in saving his city. He offers useful advice on how the Oblivion gate may be closed upon being greeted, "Quickly, quickly! There's no time! You must get to the top of the large tower. The Sigil Keep, they call it. That's what keeps the Oblivion Gate open! Find the Sigil Stone. Remove it, and the Gate will close! Hurry! The Keeper has the key-- you must get the key!".

After the Sigil Keeper is dead, Menien will say, "Take the key. Get to the Sigil Keep, and find the Sigil Stone. It's the only way. Don't worry about me; there's no time! Get moving!" if you took the key, and, "Have you got the key? You must get the Keeper's key -- it's the only way into the Sigil Keep!" if you haven't.

BugsEdit

  • Normally Menien Goneld does not appear anywhere in the game except in the Kvatch Oblivion World, and therefore he is only seen during the related quest. However, it has occasionally been reported that he can be found in locations outside of Oblivion; his dialogue does not change at all.
    •   The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.4.0, addresses this issue. While this bug couldn't be confirmed, Menien will be disabled at quest end which will prevent the possibility of this happening.
