Havilstein Hoar-Blood is an axe-wielding Nord assassin who inhabits the campsite on Gnoll Mountain with his pet wolf, Redmaw during the quest The Coldest Sleep. Hoar-Blood is actually an elite member of the Dark Brotherhood whom you will be tricked into eliminating, as your false orders inform you:
- "Your next target is a savage Nord barbarian, living alone and exposed at a small campsite on the summit of Gnoll Mountain. This barbarian, Havilstein Hoar-Blood by name, savagely butchered the chieftain of a mead hall on the island of Solstheim. The chieftain's sister has forgone the Nord custom of extracting the monetary retribution of wergild, and instead wants Hoar-Blood to pay with his life. You, dear Silencer, will help put her family at peace."
Knowing that Redmaw guards the camp twenty-four hours a day, Havilstein sleeps securely in the tent every night between midnight and 6am. Once he wakes up, he takes a seat near the fireplace and enjoys its warmth until noon. At that time, he gets up and starts wandering around the camp. At 6pm, he once again sits down near the fireplace, this time for three hours. At 9pm, he takes a few rounds around the camp until he crawls back into the tent at midnight. He will attack you on sight.
Havilstein is always equipped with two battleaxes, one of which is enchanted (unless your current level is less than level 3, in which case the enchanted battleaxe will be missing). His regular battleaxe will always be of the best possible quality for your level. He wears a full suit of fur armor. He also possesses the "Black Hand Ability" which provides him with permanent 50% Resist Magic and 50% Resist Normal Weapons.
Once he is dead and you collect your reward near Nornal, your next orders will delight in the Nord's death:
- "My compliments on another job well done! Havilstein Hoar-Blood was more swine than man, and deserved to die quivering like an animal!"
After you have killed Ungolim in the next contract, an enraged Lucien Lachance will however reveal Havilstein's true identity:
- "Your dead drops went unvisited, your targets ignored. Instead, you have been systematically killing off all the members of the Black Hand! J'Ghasta, Shaleez, Alval Uvani, Havilstein Hoar-Blood -- Speakers and Silencers all."
Related QuestsEdit
- The Coldest Sleep: Locate a Nord at Gnoll Mountain, said to be running from a fate he chose in Solstheim. Today it will find him.
NotesEdit
- Even though it is said that he is a Silencer, in the Construction Set he is only part of the "Dark Brotherhood Elite" faction, which does not have any ranks. The intent behind this faction is that when you kill him, you will not receive a bounty. The information listed in the summary box is the Construction Set faction, because this is the information that controls the NPC's disposition, dialogue, and responses to scripts; see Factions for details.
- Due to his Assassin class, Havilstein's Blunt skill remains at novice level even at very high player levels, leaving his melee attacks somewhat underpowered.
