Seif-ij Hidja was a powerful Argonian conjurer and telepath. He served as an assistant to Morian Zenas, published research on the nature of Daedric realms of Oblivion,[1][2] and contributed to the compilation of work related to Dr. Alfidia's Lupus research on cultural styles across Tamriel.[3]

HistoryEdit

Morian Zenas, Seif-ij's mentor

Little is known about Seif-ij's past, but his relationship with his mentor, Morian Zenas, played a key role in shaping his future publications and career.[1] The two met when Zenas was lecturing at the Arcane University as a professor of Transliminal Studies.[4] Twelve years before embarking on the journey he had long prepared to undertake, Zenas hired Seif-ij as his assistant. Seif-ij had the three qualities Zenas sought for the role: he was young and eager to assist without hesitation; he could read any book and memorize its contents after a single reading; and, despite his age, he was already a Master of Conjuration.[1]

Before that journey, Seif-ij lived in the townhouse of his master, Professor Morian Zenas, in the Imperial City at some point between 2E 418 and 2E 431. Seif-ij was Morian's apprentice, but he also took on responsibilities related to housekeeping. Seif-ij was described as laconic and was present during Doctor Alfidia Lupus's meeting with Professor Morian Zenas, where she conducted research on the styles of attire and armor of various races in Tamriel.[5] He contacted Alfidia on multiple occasions during her research. When she was studying the styles of Bretons, he informed her about the conflict between Morian Zenas and the Dunmeri mage Divayth Fyr.[6] As she continued her research on Khajiit attire, they met again, and he informed her that Morian had left the portal chamber using an incantation, leaving behind only a burnt smell.[7] He also delivered a note from Morian, stating that she should take his place representing the Arcane University at the Potentate Savirien-Chorak's state dinner for the new envoy from Orsinium.[8]

During Seif-ij's apprenticeship, Morian traveled extensively to Oblivion. Eventually, with Divayth's help, Morian vanished, having fulfilled his dream of going to Oblivion. According to Seif-ij, he initially went to Moonshadow but then moved on to Ashpit, Coldharbour, Quagmire, and finally Apocrypha, where he remained. Seif-ij was deeply concerned for his teacher, noting that Morian became increasingly reckless and enchanted with each new plane, ignoring Seif-ij's pleas to return. Seif-ij shared this troubling news with Alfidia, who investigated Divayth's room during Morian's absence and concluded that Fyr might be behind Morian's entrapment in Apocrypha.[9] Soon after, she too disappeared without a trace.[3]

In her absence, Seif-ij Hidja found several notes in his master's desk for her unfinished works on different cultural styles. He took it upon himself to organise these notes, emulating her style.[3][10] During this time period, Seif-ij Hidja became increasingly convinced that Alfidia had found her own way to Oblivion in pursuit of finding Morian Zenas.[11] Even after Morian vanished into Oblivion, he could still hear his mentor’s voice.[12] Eventually, he realized that his obligations to Dr. Alfidia were fulfilled, and he listened as Morian shared his experiences in Moonshadow.[11] Morian Zenas ended up in Apocrypha, where he ultimately became trapped within the feral Gallery. Despite losing a considerable portion of his memory and sanity, the telepathic link between him and Seif-ij remained active. Seif-ij continued to urge Zenas to return to Nirn, yet Zenas remained uninterested.[13] He even expressed displeasure with their ongoing connection.[14] As of 2E 582, he still heard the voices that continued to ask questions.[15]
