Meridia's Beacon

Meridia's Beacon is a magical magna-geode shaped stone associated with the Daedric Prince Meridia. The Lady of Infinite Energies is known to speak to those in possession of the beacon and uses it to influence and compel those who hold onto the Beacon.[1][2]

HistoryEdit

Second EraEdit

In 2E 582, J'saad of Black Heights was given the stone by a mysterious woman as "a gift from the Lady of Light", telling him it would bring him luck and show him a path to a brighter future, and asked for nothing in return.[3] The divine presence of Meridia soon spoke to him through it, slowly growing stronger and showing him blinding lights and strange visions. Meridia was trying to find "another knight to carry her light, one who will not betray her, one who must correct a previous mistake."[1] This presumably meant a successor to the Golden Knight Darien Gautier, who in the end did not give his full loyalty to Meridia of his own free will.[4] In the end, J'saad was not worthy of her gifts and died near the Forsaken Citadel, the stone being kept in a bag next to him. The Vestige recovered it and delivered it to his wife Adhimba, who vowed to throw it into the deepest lake for causing her partner's death, but ultimately decided to hang onto it after being under its effects and prove whether or not the voices J'saad heard were real.[3][5]

A new hand touches the Beacon. Listen. Hear me and obey. A foul darkness has seeped into my temple. A darkness that you will destroy. Return my Beacon to Mount Kilkreath. And I will make you the instrument of my cleansing light."— Meridia

Fourth EraEdit

During the Skyrim Civil War in 4E 201, the ruined temple was occupied by a dark necromancer named Malkoran who defiled the monastery with his dark magic and trapped souls of the many casualties in the ongoing war, turning both the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Soldiers into corrupted shades. A certain traveler came across Meridia's Beacon and was guided by the Daedric Prince to the temple, to cleanse the dead from her sanctum and usher her return to the people of Skyrim.[6] The traveler delved deep into the abandoned temple and fought their way to the inner sanctum, where Malkoran conducted his experiments. In the end, the traveler vanquished Malkoran and was gifted the Dawnbreaker.[7]
