The Marcotts are a fallen Breton noble family[1] based in Rivenspire. During Ranser's War they were loyal to King Ranser, and in the aftermath, High King Emeric stripped them of their power.[2] Those who had ties with the Marcotts severed them, wishing to no longer be associated with them or their political beliefs.[3] A husk of their former selves, the Marcotts decided to go underground, pursuing criminal activities to stay afloat.[4]
Circa 2E 582, Vetitia Marcott attempted to regain some of her family's influence. A Dunmer swindler by the name of Kiv Lindres stole the signet ring of the Veloise merchant family from High Isle, and traded access to the merchant houses' funds to pay off their debt. They hired Orcs from the Oathbound Clan as muscle, and planned to collect their ill-gotten gains from the Veloise by force.[5] Vetitia's plans were stopped, and she was slain, however.[6]
Harcourt Marcott was a scholar and an author. He penned Planar Exploration Vol. 14: Darkreave Curators, a text devoted to the Darkreave Curators of Apocrypha.[7]
