Lord Kain of Lainlyn
Battlehorn Castle

The Knights of the True Horn (also known as the Host of the True Horn)[1] was a knightly order founded by Lord Kain of Lainlyn and Lord Harth of the Dragontail Mountains. The knights are followers of Lord Kain, who sought to end the tyranny of his older brother, Baron Shrike and claim the throne for his own.[2]

HistoryEdit

Baron Shrike ruled over Lainlyn during the late-Third Era, around the early years of the fifth century. Lord Kain founded the knighthood with fellow nobleman Lord Harth sometime around 3E 405, and would slowly gather steam from across the Iliac Bay in High Rock,[3]:100 specifically somewhere in the Barony of Phrygias.[4] At this point in time, they had no permanent home and were not accepting recruits; however, they were known to employ mercenaries into their ranks. While some of these knights believed in Kain's cause,[5] some realized that they would not win the war in their lifetime, but hoped that their children would take on their quest. Their rival faction, the Host of the Horn would mock the True Horn among themselves.[3]:100

Eventually, the Knights of the True Horn gathered their arms and staged a coup d'etat on Baron Shrike. Kain fought with Baron Shrike. After a failed battle, Lord Kain ordered them to split into small groups across the realms so that they may regroup one day. However, not long after the battle, Lord Kain succumbed to his injuries and passed away. It is unknown where each of the groups went, but one traveled southeast into the province of Cyrodiil, where they would build Battlehorn Castle, an impressive stronghold outside of Chorrol.[2]

Over time, the order continued on with their business, often making trips to the nearby city. One night, Lord Kain arrived in Battlehorn Castle with an infamous necromancer from Lainlyn, Arielle Jurard. At the time, it was only Lord Jaren Aethelweald and Lord Garridan Stalrous in the castle, and when they learned about Kain's true fate and Arielle's scheme, they decided to seal them both in the grotto underneath the castle, never to speak of it again.[5]

Over time, members of the Knights of the True Horn had either left or passed away. Garridan Stalrous had became the Knight-Errant of Farmantle Glens, a farming community in the Jerall Mountains. When he noticed the withered fields, he spent all of his money to help the crops and gather wisdom from sages, but his month-long effort was fruitless. One day, a sage told him about the Everflow Ewer, an artifact that provides an endless source of water. He and Jaren traveled for days until they came across the ewer sanctuary, and found it in the middle of the glade. When they touched the ewer, the guardians of the glade emerged and attacked the knights. Unable to fight back, the guardian broke the ewer and spilled frozen water everywhere, even on Lord Garridan. Everything around them froze over, and Garridan cried as he realized he failed his mission. Lord Jaren escaped back to Farmantle Glens to break the news, but found that a strange bluish-glowing rain had fallen in town and invigorated the crops. Garridan's Tears froze as well, and emitted the same bluish glow found on the rain that saved the town.[6]

By the waning years of the Third Era, Lord Jaren, his son Kelvyn, and some men-at-arms were the last members of the True Horn. Jaren eventually passed away in an untimely fashion and Lord Kelvyn became the sole proprietor of Battlehorn Castle. He was still waiting for Lord Kain's message, after all those years, without realizing the truth. He spent much of his life maintaining the castle and honoring the memory of his comrades[2] until in 3E 433, when bandit marauders attacked the castle. Kelvyn died in battle, but the marauders were defeated by a traveler, who became the new owner of Battlehorn Castle. With help from Kelvyn's friend, Nilphas Omellian, the adventurer was able to restore Battlehorn Castle.[7] The adventurer also discovered the grotto underneath the castle and defeated Arielle Jurard.[8]
