Hightide Keep is an ancient ruin on the Blue Divide's shores, in the province of the Summerset Isles. It was once a massive and heavily manned fortress that defended Skywatch but was destroyed during the Sack of Skywatch in 1E 1301. Now it is a shambling ruin hidden under the city's promontory. Hightide Keep was originally built by the Ancients, the Aldmer ancestors of the modern-day Altmer of Auridon.[1][2]
In its heyday, it was a sprawling, painstakingly maintained and manned complex. During the Sload's attack on Skywatch, many magical constructs were created and expended in the keep, destroying dozens of Sload warships. The city eventually fell when a Sload warcaster, after ingesting several volatile alchemical reagents, threw himself at the base of the city's cliffs and created a great explosion that caused the greater rock face to fall to the sea. Hightide Keep was destroyed when it plunged into the sea.[1]
The ruins contain a magical crafting site infused with the special enchantment called Night's Silence, created by the mad wizard Mesanthano, who previously lived in a tower in Glenumbra.[3][4] How his enchantment appeared in Hightide Keep is unclear. In 2E 582, the ruins were inhabited by skeleton warriors and a bone colossus named Garggeel.[4]
