Goldfolly (formerly known as Faltonia's Promise)[1] is a ruined stronghold found on a crossroad in the region of Grahtwood, within the province of Valenwood. Goldfolly is an abandoned prospecting settlement, owned by the eponymous, Faltonia Salvius. It is now a settlement owned by the Wood Orcs that once worked for Faltonia.

HistoryEdit

Faltonia's Promise was founded by the eponymous, Faltonia Salvius, who like many others had believed that Grahtwood contained great wealth and opportunity. Faltonia, in particular, wanted to extract wealth from the region of Tarlain Heights. What may have led to Faltonia's failure was her growing trust with various Imperial diviners and alchemist that told her that there was indeed a large vein of gold, even though, according to alchemist, Flavius Antonius, the samples in the area were too small for there to be a large vein. Flavius was arrested on Faltonia's command and beaten to the point where he could never walk again. Faltonia traveled for Grahtwood during the spring, bringing a group of Imperial soldiers, and contracting several Wood Orcs to bring about her grand plan. By the midsummer, the mining town of Faltonia's Promise was formed.[1]

The town was bringing gold in the thousands, eager prospectors sucked the money-making lifeforce from Faltonia's Promise to the point where the town had become completely void of gold veins, and not even within a full year. And across the land, from tavern to tavern, Faltonia's Promise had become nothing more than a punchline of a failed dream. But Salvius was not willing to give, and instead turned her town into a quarry-town. Faltonia Salvius was able to negotiate with the port-city of Haven, to supply the stone for their ruined buildings. But these changed when a charismatic Altmer Canonreeve persuaded Haven to build with imported Summerset stone. With essentially no money left, Faltonia Salvius had abandoned her settlement and those that came to seek wealth had spread across Grahtwood. From then on, Faltonia's Promise had become known as Goldfolly.[1]

The ones to remain on the property were the former Wood Orcs that worked for Faltonia's operation. They lived their lives as hunters, and become known for being a stubborn group. They were honored to continue to live off of Goldfolly, and through them, Goldfolly retained a positive reputation of their people having such a strong and indomitable spirit.[1] Interestingly, the Wood Orcs that lived in Goldfolly had become known for producing Bat-Cheese, which has apparently become a favored delicacy by the nobility of Tamriel,[2] and which the process has obtained an iconic status.[3] But eventually, the species of Giant Bats they used were "lost".

During the Interregnum in 2E 582, the town of Goldfolly had continued to be an active Wood Orc settlement, albeit with a significant change. On a fateful day, the Altmer vampire, Lenendore had approached Goldfolly, and turned the Wood Orcs into the mindless and demented Bloodfiends. At had came to the point, where the townsfolk were doomed to fate, unable to leave or survive, but refusing to quit.[4] The vampire later took shelter in Faltonia's old mine, and left the town corrupted by his magic. A group of vampire hunters and a wandering traveler investigated Goldfolly, and kill the bloodfiends. However, some of these hunters did not survive the ordeal, and the remaining people ultimately killed the Vampire Lord, and avenge Goldfolly. What happened next to the town is unknown.[5]

NotesEdit

  • When the Daedric forces of Molag Bal captured the Imperial City, his various minions and machinations roamed the sewer system that streamed across the City Isle. The Bloodmist Clan, a clan of vampiric Orcs, was one of the various Daedric factions to occupy portions of the sewers, and their patriarch was known as Otholug gro-Goldfolly. Otholug was killed by wandering soldiers of the Alliances.[6]
